Third Street Music School is seeking a Production Assistant to support performance setup, execution, and logistics for recitals, student ensembles, masterclasses, and off-site events.

You will assist with office tasks, event planning, and programmatic projects while helping ensure smooth operations during busy seasons. The role requires adaptability, hands-on AV familiarity, and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Experience in concert or event production.
  • Ability to lift and transport equipment as needed.
  • Familiarity with AV equipment and stage lighting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in music/theatre preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR certification beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning of school events and productions.
  • Serve as stage manager or stagehand as assigned.
  • Operate livestreaming, lighting, or audio/video equipment.
  • Assist with setup/breakdown of performance spaces.
  • Produce concert programs and other materials.
  • Transport instruments/equipment to venues if needed.
  • Coordinate venue rental activities and event logistics.
  • Maintain inventory and organization of production gear.
  • Perform other department projects as directed.

POSITION: Production Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Music & Dance School

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director, Productions

SALARY: $25-$29/Hourly, Non-Exempt

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Production, this position will support the setup, execution, and logistics of performances and events at Third Street Music School. This includes recitals, student ensemble performances, masterclasses and performances on and off‑site. This position will also be expected to support office and administrative tasks, such as drafting concert programs, event planning, and programmatic projects as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with or implement the planning of school events as assigned by the Assistant Director
  • Serve as stage manager or stagehand for selected events, as assigned.
  • Operate livestreaming, lighting, or Audio/Video equipment as assigned.
  • Assist with the set-up and breakdown of performance spaces for events as assigned.
  • Assist with the production of selected performance materials, including concert programs.
  • Be available to transport instruments and equipment to concert venues, if needed
  • Coordinate performance hall rental activities in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Production, supporting client communications, scheduling, and event logistics.
  • Maintain organization of production equipment and conduct routine inventory management to ensure accurate tracking, availability, and operational readiness.
  • Perform any other department or special projects as directed by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong interest in performing arts and arts education.
  • Prior experience in concert or event production.
  • Adaptable, comfort in high‑pressure situations, solution‑oriented, eager to learn and develop skills.
  • Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of audiovisual and recording equipment. Familiarity with ETC lighting consoles, live audio systems, and PTZ camera systems a plus. Hands‑on training available.
  • Experience with traditional orchestra and backline equipment.
  • Physical ability and stamina to perform all functions of the job, including: the ability to lift, climb ladders, and to set-up/breakdown objects required for each event. This position may be exposed to amplified sound and theatrical lighting during performances.
  • Bachelor’s degree in music, theatre, or related field preferred
  • First Aid and CPR certified (paid training available)
SCHEDULE
  • Regular School Year (September–June)
    • Friday: 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM
    • Saturday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
    • Sunday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
    • Monday: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
  • Summer (July-August)
    • Limited hours for events and preparation for the school year - anticipated 12 hours a week
  • Additional on-call hours will be available and arranged in advance and mainly occur during peak performance seasons, which are typically in December, January, May, and June.
  • One candidate is preferred, but multiple may be selected based on availability.
