Job summary

Axillon Aerospace, Inc. is seeking a composite layup technician to perform hand layup of prepreg materials onto molds and tooling according to engineering specifications. You will identify ply orientation and laminate schedule requirements to ensure proper material placement.

You will prepare molds, cut and stage materials, manage bagging operations, inspect layups, and support autoclave loading/unloading while maintaining traceability and adhering to safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Experience with hand layup of prepreg composites is a plus.
• Familiarity with following engineering specs, ply books and work instructions.
• Attention to material orientation and laminate scheduling requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform hand layup of prepreg composite materials onto molds and tooling in accordance with engineering specifications, ply books, and work instructions.
• Identify and orient composite plies according to fiber direction, material type, and laminate schedule requirements.
• Prepare molds and tooling, including cleaning, release application, and inspection prior to layup operations.
• Cut, kit, and stage composite materials for production requirements.
• Remove backing films and accurately position prepreg materials while minimizing wrinkles, bridging, gaps, and foreign object debris (FOD).
• Debulk laminate stacks as required throughout the layup process.
• Perform vacuum bagging operations including installation of peel ply, perforated film, breather materials, vacuum ports, and bagging film.
• Verify vacuum integrity and leak-check assemblies prior to cure.
• Maintain material traceability and accurately complete manufacturing documentation.
• Inspect completed layups for compliance with specifications and quality standards.
• Support autoclave loading and unloading operations when required.
• Follow all company safety procedures, clean room protocols, and handling requirements for refrigerated prepreg materials.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities to improve quality, efficiency, and production flow.
