Job summary

Mission Underwriting Services seeks an Applied AI Engineer to design, implement, and scale its enterprise AI platform and automation capabilities. You will build production-ready AI applications, integrate LLMs, and enable AI-powered experiences across underwriting, operations, finance, and HR.

You will work with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable AI solutions and set best practices for governance and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software/AI engineering with 2+ years delivering production AI solutions.
• Hands-on with LLMs, AI memory/context management, AI agents, prompt engineering, orchestration frameworks.
• Experience deploying AI features with cloud-native tech.
• Strong programming skills in Python or JavaScript; building RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Experience integrating AI with enterprise systems via REST APIs and data stores.
• Familiarity with AI evaluation, monitoring, and testing frameworks.
• Understanding of Responsible AI, security, governance, and compliance.
• Experience with Git, GitHub/GitLab, CI/CD, and IaC for AI apps.
• Experience with Databricks, SQL Server, or similar data platforms.
• Proficiency in modern cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Bachelor-level CS/SE or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to translate complex business problems into scalable AI solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy production-grade AI solutions using LLMs, AI agents, and ML techniques.
• Build AI-powered workflows automating underwriting, operations, finance, and other functions.
• Develop scalable AI services using cloud-native architectures.
• Integrate AI capabilities with policy administration, submission management, and data platforms.
• Design prompt engineering, orchestration, vector DBs, and knowledge retrieval for AI performance.
• Evaluate and optimize foundation models for accuracy, latency, and cost.
• Develop automated testing and monitoring to measure AI quality and system performance.
• Implement governance, security, and responsible AI practices.
• Collaborate with product owners and engineers to translate requirements into AI solutions.
• Build AI models from providers like Anthropic and OpenAI.
• Leverage tools like Copilot, Claude Code, Codex for development.
• Create reusable AI components, SDKs, and engineering frameworks.
• Use MongoDB and Databricks to store/process data.
• Optimize AI infrastructure and inference pipelines for reliability.
• Stay current with emerging AI tech and best practices.
• Support production AI systems and drive business outcomes.
