Job summary

First American is seeking a Product Underwriting Counsel to bridge legal, underwriting, and product development. You will translate title insurance and real estate concepts into guidance that shapes product strategy, underwriting protocols, and product evolution.

The role requires a Law Degree, licensure to practice in the relevant jurisdiction, and at least three years in title underwriting or conveyancing.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree required and licensed to practice law.
• At least three years of direct title insurance underwriting, title counsel, or real estate conveyancing experience.
• Ability to apply underwriting judgment in technology, product, automation, or AI-enabled environments.
• Some technical aptitude, including basic familiarity with at least one software language.
• Strong business acumen and strategic agility.

Responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate, and manage title insurance risk for a technology feature, product, or line.
• Execute underwriting vision and strategy for a technology feature, product, or line.
• Participate in planning meetings and product strategy discussions.
• Assess market competition and identify gaps, threats, and advantages.
• Provide subject matter expertise on underwriting, title insurance, and real estate conveyancing to product managers, designers, researchers, and engineers.
• Translate complex title and real estate concepts into clear ideas for product teams.
• Translate technology product concepts for transaction underwriters to influence underwriting protocol.
• Execute tasks on the product roadmap.
• Contribute input to product development priorities.
