Job summary

McLane Company, Inc. is seeking a Manager of Product Tax and Compliance to lead the tax team and own tax systems for regulated products. The role focuses on accurate tax determination, licensing, and reporting, driving compliance across jurisdictions from Temple, TX.

You will analyze tax changes, partner with IT and business units, and guide audits and process improvements in a dynamic distribution environment. Strong leadership and GAAP knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
• Five or more years of progressive experience in tax, accounting, regulatory compliance, or related field, including leadership.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting requirements, and internal controls.
• Comprehensive understanding of product taxes, excise taxes, tobacco taxes, licensing requirements, and related regulatory compliance.
• Advanced analytical, project management, and critical thinking skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Effective verbal and written communication with executives, regulators, business partners, and teams.
• Ability to stay current on tobacco/excise tax and regulatory developments and implement compliance actions.

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop, and manage product tax team with high performance and accountability.
• Own the Profile tax system for accurate determination, configuration, maintenance, and application across products.
• Oversee new item setup to ensure proper review, coding, and taxation.
• Maintain tax stamp inventory and related compliance processes.
• Monitor regulatory changes and communicate requirements to partners.
• Design and maintain jurisdictionally compliant reporting, schedules, and analytics (Alteryx or similar).
• Reconcile tax GL accounts and ensure GAAP compliance.
• Support audits and regulatory examinations and resolution activities.
• Lead testing and implementation of electronic filing solutions as required.
• Collaborate with IT, Merchandising, Corporate Tax, Accounting, Ops, Distribution Centers, and regulators.
• Handle special projects and other duties.
