Job summary

TÜV SÜD America Inc. in New Brighton, MN is seeking an Engineering Manager, Product Safety to lead a team of product safety engineers and ensure safe, compliant products through rigorous testing and evaluation.

This leadership role requires deep knowledge of IEC/UL standards, experience managing multiple certification projects, and strong budgeting, client interface, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering or related field
• 8–10 years of product safety engineering experience in TIC industry
• 3–5 years of engineering management or team leadership experience
• Proven track record managing technical teams of 5+ engineers
• In-depth knowledge of IEC and UL standards, OSHA's NRTL Program, and IECEE's CB Scheme
• Experience with product safety testing equipment (oscilloscopes, multi-meters, dielectric testers, environmental chambers)
• Understanding of risk assessment and safety management systems
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical professionals
• Strong project management skills with multiple concurrent projects
• Experience with performance management and talent development
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Strong technical writing and documentation skills
• Outstanding leadership and team management abilities

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 8–12 Product Safety Engineers
• Recruit, hire, and onboard top engineering talent
• Conduct regular 1:1s and provide career development guidance
• Foster a collaborative work environment with continuous learning
• Oversee product safety evaluations using IEC/UL standards
• Ensure timely delivery of Certificates, Test Reports and Technical Reports
• Develop test methodologies and QA processes
• Stay current with evolving safety standards and regulations
• Manage certification projects with multiple stakeholders
• Define project scope, timelines, and budgets; interface with clients
• Manage departmental budget and resource planning
• Ensure compliance with OSHA's NRTL Program and IECEE CB Scheme
• Participate in client meetings and audits as part of regional leadership
