Job summary

WEKA seeks a Senior Counsel to own the product-facing legal function, shaping how WEKA builds and ships its technology and handles data. You will report to the General Counsel and partner with Product, Engineering, Security and Marketing to scale governance and privacy programs.

Qualifications

• 6–9 years of legal experience counseling product and engineering teams at a technology company.
• Experience partnering with Product and Engineering on launches, ideally building or running a review process.
• Working knowledge of GDPR and CCPA/CPRA, and experience building or upgrading a privacy program.
• Experience negotiating DPAs and responding to customer security and privacy diligence.
• Active bar membership and legal licensure.
• Experience managing external counsel and vendors efficiently across specialized matters.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage product counseling: risk-tiered legal review for features and releases; create intake forms, launch checklists, and criteria for involving Legal.
• Serve as legal partner to Product, Engineering, Security, and Support for NeuralMesh and WEKApod from design through launch and post-launch review; advise on product terms and EULAs and support policies.
• Develop customer-facing materials on key product and legal topics; anticipate questions and help move deals forward.
• Advise on data collection, processing, telemetry, diagnostics, and support access.
• Review inbound/outbound open-source use and coordinate with General Counsel on patent/trademark matters; govern AI in product development and operations.
• Build and own WEKA’s privacy program and framework; update notices and policies; standardize DPAs; maintain subprocessor list.
• Partner with Security on incident response, breach assessment, SOC 2/ISO audits; coordinate with HR and Marketing on data handling and practices.
• Draft policies and playbooks; create templates and self-service resources to speed up engineering with minimal legal touch; train Engineering on privacy-by-design.
• Provide backup support on commercial matters (NDAs, procurement contracts, partner agreements) as needed.
