Job description

Job Summary

The Product Owner plays a critical role in translating business objectives into executable software solutions. Working closely with software development teams and business stakeholders, the Product Owner owns backlog prioritization and day-to-day execution of development projects. This Product Owner will specifically support The Restaurant Store (TRS) ecommerce experience, partnering with TRS stakeholders and development teams to drive product initiatives forward. The Product Owner manages competing priorities across multiple stakeholders, makes trade-off decisions with incomplete information, and navigates ambiguity to keep projects moving forward. Our team values both collaboration and ownership, and the ideal candidate is comfortable taking ownership of their work, proactively driving priorities forward, and creating clarity and alignment between technical and non-technical partners in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities
  • Own and maintain the backlog in Azure DevOps (ADO), developing a strong understanding of active work, priorities, dependencies, and upcoming needs.
  • Interpret stakeholder and organizational needs, translating them into concise and actionable work items for the development team, including bugs, PBIs, features, and research spikes.
  • Understand and clearly communicate the “what” and “why” behind work items to support effective refinement, sizing, prioritization, and development discussions.
  • Develop strong working relationships with TRS stakeholders, the technical BA, developers, and other partners to identify needs, close gaps, and maintain alignment between business and technical teams.
  • Help establish and reinforce effective Product Owner practices with stakeholders who may have varying levels of experience working within a traditional product ownership model.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and development team members to prioritize and organize the backlog, balancing business value, customer impact, technical needs, and organizational priorities.
  • Support the development and maintenance of a product roadmap by facilitating priority-setting, identifying upcoming needs, and contributing to product vision discussions.
  • Test completed work to ensure quality and compliance with Acceptance Criteria and coordinate smooth releases with stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot bugs and respond to stakeholder inquiries, determining appropriate next steps and escalating when necessary.
  • Proactively communicate priorities, progress, dependencies, risks, and changes to stakeholders and development team members.
  • Coordinate across initiatives when needed to help maintain visibility, alignment, and forward progress on work involving multiple stakeholders or dependencies.
  • Attend daily and weekly development meetings, adhere to the team's working agreement, and contribute constructively to team discussions and continuous improvement.
Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed while sitting/standing and interfacing with a personal computer.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
  • Requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 50lbs.
Remote Work Qualifications
  • Access to a reliable and secure high-speed internet connection. Cable or fiber internet connections (at least 75mbps download/10mbps upload) are preferred, as satellite connections often cannot support the technologies used to perform day-to-day tasks.
  • Access to a home router and modem.
  • A dedicated home office space that is noise- and distraction-free. The space should have strong wireless connection or a wired Ethernet connection (wired connection is preferred, if possible).
  • A valid, physical address (apartment, suite, etc.). PO Boxes are not supported, as a physical address is required for you to receive your computer equipment.
  • The desire and ability to work and communicate with other team members via chat, webcam, etc.
  • Legal residents of one of the following states: (AK, AL, AR, AZ, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WI, WV, or WY). H-1B Visa Sponsorship Not Available, W2 only.
Experience
  • 3+ years of experience working as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, Project Manager, or in a similar role supporting software development teams.
  • Experience working with agile methodologies and software development processes.
  • Demonstrated experience independently managing competing priorities and translating business needs into actionable development work.
  • Ecommerce or customer-facing product experience is not required but is a plus!
Education
  • This role does not require a degree. We value relevant skills and experience and alignment with our core values above all else.
Desired Traits & Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently investigate issues, evaluate options, and determine appropriate next steps.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate between business and technical audiences.
  • Confidence working with stakeholders, asking challenging questions when necessary, and facilitating conversations that lead to clear priorities and decisions.
  • Ability to establish structure and productive working relationships within the development team.
  • Willingness to seek feedback, continuously improve, and help strengthen product development practices across the team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, assignments, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
