Toggleai is seeking an experienced engineering manager in New York City to grow a high-performance software organization. You will coach engineers, manage performance, hire top talent, and partner with product and tech leads to scale teams toward 75+ people while maintaining speed and quality.

In this role, you will lead with data, drive accountability, and keep engineering practices lightweight to preserve speed. The position offers equity and a competitive NYC compensation package.

Qualifications

• Extensive software engineering experience across modern production systems.
• Proven track record managing senior, opinionated engineers.
• Strong performance management and coaching skills.
• Experience hiring in competitive markets.
• Data-driven, evidence-based decision making.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and changing product requirements.
• Low ego: does not need to be the sole technical authority in the room.

Responsibilities

• Manage, coach, and develop engineers across one or more squads.
• Run high-quality 1:1s with continuous follow-through, not just quarterly check-ins.
• Own performance management and career development.
• Give direct feedback early to prevent issues.
• Resolve interpersonal and cross-functional conflict.
• Partner closely with each squad's Technical Lead and Product Manager.
• Recruit excellent engineers and help build the NYC engineering team.
• Understand team capacity and surface organizational constraints.
• Remove blockers that hinder execution.
• Own onboarding and management basics to prevent overburdening senior leads.
• Use data and evidence to measure team performance.
