Elicit is hiring an Engineering Manager to coach and grow a small, high‑performing team of engineers in Oakland. You will own execution across complex product initiatives, partner with product and design, and raise the engineering bar through architectural decisions and thoughtful feedback.

You will lead hiring, career development, and a culture of rapid iteration while maintaining high standards. Flexible work options include Oakland office or remote with overlap.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 3+ years directly managing software engineers.
• Experience leading engineering teams at high-bar startups.
• Strong computer science fundamentals and technical depth.
• Experience shipping complex, user-facing products with measurable business impact.
• Track record of coaching and giving feedback to engineers.
• Strong communication across engineering, product, design.
• Curiosity about language models, AI, and building better decision tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a small, high-performing team of engineers (2–3 to start).
• Drive execution across complex product initiatives and roadmap delivery.
• Partner with product, design, and research to turn ideas into shipped software.
• Provide coaching, feedback, and career guidance to engineers.
• Participate in architecture discussions and system design reviews.
• Improve engineering processes and tooling to raise the bar.
• Own the team’s planning, delivery, and quarterly results.
