Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Vision is recruiting for a Product Engineering Manager, located in Jacksonville, FL. This role provides strategic and operational leadership for engineering teams supporting product, process, and packaging technologies across the Vision network.

You will lead multi-site, cross-functional initiatives to deliver NPIs, lifecycle improvements, and ensure compliance with FDA/ISO standards while driving cost, quality and delivery improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
• Typically requires 8+ years of progressively responsible engineering experience; leadership experience in a regulated manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
• Operations/manufacturing experience (production supervision/front‑line leadership) is preferred.
• Experience working with vendors to select, source, quote, and procure off‑the‑shelf and custom designed components is preferred.
• Experience working in ISO and FDA regulated environments is preferred.
• Packaging knowledge (standards and test methods such as ASTM, ISTA, ISO, and applicable regulatory requirements) is preferred where role scope includes packaging.

Responsibilities

• Define and communicate engineering strategy (e.g., manufacturing and technology roadmap) aligned to business goals; establish and monitor product/process KPIs and ensure improvement programs are in place to meet targets.
• Provide technical leadership and oversight for multi-brand engineering portfolios, including design transfers and integration of NPIs and sustained lifecycle management improvements.
• Lead cross-functional and cross-site development of compelling business cases for complex engineering initiatives; drive prioritization, timing, and implementation approach for changes and improvements.
• Provide governance and execution leadership for engineering projects and change control programs, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, regulatory requirements (FDA/ISO), staffing plans, and budget commitments.
• Develop, recommend, and manage capital investment plans and project spending budgets; perform concept analysis of capital projects to support future development and capacity/technology needs.
• Establish and drive data-driven decision making by enabling access to reliable insights to improve accuracy and speed of decisions.
• Ensure robust technical problem solving, investigation support, and timely closure of CAPAs, audit findings, and non‑conformances; lead corrective and preventive actions to address quality, technical, and manufacturing issues.
• Oversee the creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of engineering specifications, procedures, and standards (including packaging specifications and processes where applicable) to ensure compliance and operational effectiveness.
• Promote operational excellence by continuously improving business processes to reduce cost, improve compliance, and increase efficiency across engineering operations.
• Build and lead high‑performing teams: recruit, develop, coach, and inspire engineering professionals; set quarterly individual goals aligned to organizational objectives; provide mentoring and development opportunities for direct reports and broader teams.
• Provide technical consultation and guidance on conceptual evaluation, design, validation, and qualification of new equipment, controls, packaging systems, and manufacturing processes; participate in technical design reviews for machine requirements and product/process specifications.
• Manage external interfaces as needed, including supervising/leading work with vendors, outside designers, consultants, and contractors for off‑the‑shelf and custom solutions.

Education
