Job summary

Danfoss Power Solutions Segment in Ames, IA seeks an Engineer, Product to own and improve high-power product lines, partnering with manufacturing to turn design into reliable equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering.
• At least 3 months of internship or co-op experience in an engineering role.
• Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude and a passion for troubleshooting and solving complex problems.
• Familiarity with CAD software and model-based design tools (like Matlab/Simulink).
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage projects and work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects to improve product quality, reduce costs, and add new features in high-power hydrostatic lines.
• Take ownership of design from concept to validation, perform design calculations and tolerance stack-ups, then test in the lab.
• Lead root cause analysis using the 8D process to solve complex product performance issues for customers and sites.
• Serve as a technical partner to manufacturing, quality, and sales teams, providing expert engineering support.
• Manage the product design control process, ensuring design changes are documented and implemented through the change process.

The Impact You'll Make

Are you an engineer who is driven to make great products even better? As a Engineer, Product on our High Power team, you will take ownership of our existing product lines, using your design skills to improve their quality, reduce their cost, and enhance their performance.

This is a role where you will be the go-to technical expert for your products. You will work in close partnership with our Ames production facility, acting as the critical engineering link to the factory floor and seeing your improvements come to life.

You will be a hands-on problem-solver, blending design and analysis at your desk with testing and validation in the lab. This is your chance to manage projects from start to finish and make a tangible impact on the products that power industries around the world.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead engineering projects to improve product quality, reduce costs, and add new features to our high-power hydrostatic product lines.
• Take ownership of the design from concept to validation, performing design calculations and tolerance stack-ups before getting hands-on in the lab to test and verify your improvements.
• Act as a technical detective, leading root cause analysis using the 8D process to solve complex product performance issues for our customers and manufacturing sites.
• Serve as a key technical partner to our manufacturing, quality, and sales teams, providing the expert engineering support they need to succeed.
• Manage the product design control process, ensuring all design changes are meticulously documented and successfully implemented through our engineering change process.

What We're Looking For
