Job summary

Laminar is building human-centric self-driving factories with inline sensors and physics-grounded models. We seek engineers who own problems end-to-end, from frontend to backend, to create products users love in a collaborative Boston team.

You’ll work across the stack to deliver features that increase interpretability of ML models and improve factory telemetry. Expect a fast-paced, autonomous culture with strong emphasis on execution and impact.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with data science, backend, and forward deployed engineering teams to ideate, collect feedback, prototype and productionize Insights solutions addressing customer challenges.
• Work with different customer profiles to build Insights functionalities for their personas and ensure end-to-end delivery and success of features.
• Identify friction points with engineers, FDEs and leadership and build internal products that help FDEs move quickly and meet customer goals.
• Deliver polished user-facing features with scalable UI components that improve interpretability of ML models and observability of processes in customer factories.
• Write clean, efficient, well-documented code.
• Improve application performance by adopting frontend frameworks, optimizing SQL queries, or refactoring backend API calls.

For a century, the answer to “what’s in the pipe right now” was a grab sample to a lab with results back hours later. We answer it every second.

Laminar is building human-centric self‑driving factories: the ones made of stainless steel pipes and reactors, that make what the world eats, uses, and wears. Proprietary inline sensors read the chemistry in the pipe. Foundation models grounded in physics and chemistry reason about how close the process is to its target. Process control software acts on the answer through the plant’s automation system in real time. Laminar Insights shows what happened, why, and what it saved. We are looking for engineers who understand the bigger picture and work across the stack: frontend, backend, design, and everything in between to create great products that users love – all the way from customers to forward deployed engineers (FDEs).

Some broad questions that we are currently thinking deeply about:

• How does Insights pull narratives and trends out of factory operations data?
• How should the interface adapt to each facility’s processes?
• How do we represent Laminar’s impact at a plant accurately?
• How can we build internal products that are force multipliers for our FDEs?

What You Will Do

• Collaborate with data science, backend, forward deployed engineering teams to ideate, collect feedback, prototype and productionize solutions on Insights that address challenges our customers are facing.
• Work with different customer profiles to build Insights functionalities for their personas and ensure end to end delivery and success of features built.
• Work with engineers, FDEs and leadership to identify friction points and build internal products that help FDEs move quickly, achieve customer goals, and understand the Laminar model stack.
• Deliver polished user-facing features with scalable UI components that help increase the interpretability of our ML models, add more observability into the processes running in our customers’ factories, and more.
• Write clean, efficient, and well‑documented code
• Always be on the lookout for how to improve application performance by adopting latest innovations in frontend frameworks, optimizing SQL queries, or refactoring backend API calls.

About You

• 1-4 years of experience working with customer‑facing products.
• Strong proficiency in React/Typescript and experience working with modern frontend tooling.
• Familiarity with Python for data visualizations, rapid prototyping
• Strong UX sensibilities and enthusiasm about building features that are performant, intuitive, and polished
• A self‑driven, high ownership mentality to first, conceptualize the needs of customers with very different business needs and then, shipping solutions to production.
• An appreciation for simplicity and pragmatism when building software.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative in‑person office in Boston.

Our Interview Process

1. Phone screen with Laminar Head of Ops or Recruiter (15-20 minutes)
2. Intro call with Hiring Manager (30 minutes)
3. On‑site interview, including short tour of GTL, overview of tech, and interview/presentation with the Hiring Manager and a few team members. Depending on the role, a skills exercise that should take no longer than an hour to prep, would be sent ahead of time. We record your skills exercise to share with any team members who could not join the interview and/or with Founder’s ahead of their Founder’s Interview. If you are not local, we can conduct this virtually.
4. Finalists for Full‑Time positions will have a Founder’s Interview in‑person
