Job summary

Laminar is building a self‑driving factory, delivering software and ML workloads to edge devices and factory servers. You’ll own components of the edge platform, shaping how software, ML models, and LLM workloads run on Linux‑based edge devices and factory‑deployed servers.

This hands‑on role spans architecture, prototyping, and production deployment, with ownership for reliable systems, thoughtful technical decisions, and mentoring fellow engineers.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience building production systems software on Linux or distributed systems.
• Track record owning design and success of major components in a larger system.
• Experience shipping software into edge/embedded environments and deployment hardware.

Responsibilities

• Acquire and condition sensing signals, including ADC and timing, filtering, and calibration.
• Integrate detectors and sensors, from bring‑up to production drivers.
• Address noise from vibration, EMI, and thermal drift to expose clean signals.
• Develop firmware in Zephyr for new detectors in our sensor stack.
• Build on‑device calibration storage and provisioning workflows.
• Deliver data paths from sensors to Edge Gateway via drivers and OTA updates.

Proprietary inline sensors read the chemistry in the pipe. Foundation models grounded in physics and chemistry reason about how close the process is to its target. Process control software acts on the answer through the plant’s automation system in real time. Laminar Insights shows what happened, why, and what it saved. We’re looking for an exceptional Senior Software Engineer, Edge Platform to own components of and build out Laminar’s next-generation edge computing platform. You’ll shape how our software, ML models, and LLM workloads run on Linux-based edge devices and factory-deployed servers. This is a hands‑on role with ownership from early architecture and prototyping through production deployment. We’re looking for someone who can turn open-ended challenges into reliable systems, make thoughtful technical decisions, and help other engineers grow along the way.

What You Will Do

• Acquisition & Conditioning: Own the sensing signal chain, covering ADC acquisition and timing, filtering, integration and averaging strategy, and calibration.
• Sensor Integration: Integrate new detectors and sensing elements as our sensor lineup evolves. Own integration, supporting board bring‑up through production‑ready drivers.
• Noise Rejection: Get the real signal out of noisy environments. Tackle challenges like vibration, EMI, thermal drift, and more.
• Firmware development: Develop firmware in Zephyr to interface with new detectors into our existing modular sensor stack
• Calibration: Build the firmware side of calibration, including on‑device coefficient storage, third party calibration procedures, and the final provisioning process for our sensors.
• Device Connectivity: Ship drivers, OTA, and health monitoring for our sensors to carry data up to our Edge Gateway.

About You

• 4+ years of experience building production systems software, with meaningful work on Linux systems, infrastructure, or distributed systems.
• Track record of owning the design, implementation, and success of significant components within a larger system.
• Comfortable defining technical direction, taking ownership, and delivering in a fast‑paced product iteration cycle.
• Deep Linux experience, covering administration, networking, filesystems, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
• Experience shipping software into environments you don’t control: into on‑prem, edge, embedded, robotics, or similar.
• Practical experience with bare‑metal infrastructure, hypervisors, virtual machines, and containers.
• Strong experience in languages such as Rust, Python, C/C++, or Go, with experience building automation and system tooling.
• Familiarity with deploying ML models and LLMs on edge hardware, including inference runtimes and resource constraints.
• Experience with deployment automation, monitoring, system recovery, and secure software updates.
• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

$114,000 - $180,000 a year

Our pay ranges are established per Pave Compensation Software. Our Interview Process

1. Phone screen with Laminar Head of Ops or Recruiter (15-20 minutes)

2. Intro call with Hiring Manager (30 minutes)

3. On‑site interview, including short tour of GTL, overview of tech, and interview/presentation with the Hiring Manager and a few team members. Depending on the role, a skills exercise that should take no longer than an hour to prep, would be sent ahead of time. We record your skills exercise to share with any team members who could not join the interview and/or with Founder’s ahead of their Founder’s Interview. If you are not local, we can conduct this virtually.
