Job summary

Laminar is seeking a driven Software Engineer, Edge Platform to build the software infrastructure for its edge computing platform. You will work with a Senior Edge Platform Engineer to develop Linux-based software, automate system setup, and improve deployment on edge devices and factory servers.

You’ll own defined components, learn systems deeply, and tackle increasingly complex engineering challenges. We value initiative, teamwork, and hands‑on Linux experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/EE or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong Linux experience, including command line, permissions, processes and logs.
• Experience with Docker, VMs, and systemd is a plus.
• Familiarity with networking fundamentals (IP, DNS, ports, TCP/IP).
• Proficient in Python, Rust, C++, or Go and shell scripting.
• Experience with Git and testing/debugging workflows.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Linux services, scripts, and tools for edge platform.
• Automate setup and configuration of edge devices and factory servers.
• Support packaging, testing, and deployment of applications using containers and VMs.
• Implement and test industrial integrations (Modbus TCP/IP, OPC UA, etc.).
• Contribute to updates, logging, monitoring, and recovery for deployed systems.
• Investigate failures, improve reliability, and develop tests for deployments.
• Support ML inference workloads on edge hardware.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to deliver features and resolve issues.
• Maintain setup instructions, technical docs, and troubleshooting guides.

The Role

We’re looking for a driven Software Engineer, Edge Platform to help build the software infrastructure behind Laminar’s edge computing platform. Working closely with our Senior Edge Platform Engineer, you’ll develop Linux-based software, automate system setup, and improve how applications are deployed and managed on edge devices and factory servers. We value engineers who are curious about how systems work, take initiative, and follow problems through to a working solution. You’ll take ownership of well‑defined components while building the skills to tackle increasingly complex engineering challenges.

What You Will Do

• Software Development: Build and maintain Linux services, scripts, and tools supporting our edge platform.
• System Provisioning: Help automate the setup and configuration of edge computers and factory‑deployed servers.
• Application Deployment: Support packaging, testing, and deployment of applications using containers and virtual machines.
• Industrial Connectors: Implement and test integrations for the industrial communication protocol our customers use, including Modbus TCP/IP, Profinet, OPC UA, CC‑Link, and EtherNet/IP. You’ll work through your design with a senior engineer and own the implementation.
• Platform Reliability: Contribute to software updates, logging, monitoring, and recovery capabilities for deployed systems.
• Debugging & Testing: Investigate service failures, networking issues, and resource usage. Develop tests that improve reliability across deployment environments.
• Edge AI Integration: Support the integration and testing of ML inference workloads on edge hardware.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with the senior engineer and broader engineering team to deliver features and resolve platform issues.
• Documentation: Maintain clear setup instructions, technical documentation, and troubleshooting guides.

About You

• High initiative and strong follow‑through. You ask thoughtful questions, seek feedback, and take responsibility for your work.
• Ability to learn quickly and work successfully in a fast‑paced team environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Good hands‑on Linux experience, including the command line, permissions, processes, services, package management, and logs.
• Experience programming in a language such as Python, Rust, C++, or Go, and familiarity with shell scripting.
• Understanding of networking fundamentals, including IP addressing, DNS, ports, and TCP/IP.
• Familiarity with Git and a methodical approach to testing and debugging.
• Academic, personal, internship, or professional projects demonstrating your ability to build and troubleshoot working systems.
• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with Docker, virtual machines, systemd, or a personal Linux server is a plus, as is an interest in running ML models locally.

Our pay ranges are established per Pave Compensation Software. We’re also proud to offer equity in our fast‑growing startup and one of the most comprehensive benefits packages among startups at our stage. Our Interview Process

1. Phone screen with Laminar Head of Ops or Recruiter (15-20 minutes)

2. Intro call with Hiring Manager (30 minutes)

3. On-site interview, overview of tech, and interview/presentation with the Hiring Manager and a few team members. Depending on the role, a skills exercise that should take no longer than an hour to prep, would be sent ahead of time. We record your skills exercise to share with any team members who could not join the interview and/or with Founder's ahead of their Founder's Interview. If you are not local, we can conduct this virtually.

4. Finalists for Full‑Time positions will have a Founder’s Interview in‑person
