Job summary

Beacon Software is seeking a commercially minded Product Counsel to partner with Beacon and portfolio product teams on features, IP strategy, and licenses. You will lead open source governance, draft complex agreements, and guide regulatory and AI-related considerations across multiple industries.

You will operate in a fast-paced environment, shaping the role over time while building scalable legal infrastructure and partnering with executives, product managers, and engineers.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and member in good standing of at least one bar (CA or NY preferred).
• 5–7 years of product, technology, and IP law experience at a top-tier firm, or 4–5 years in-house at a tech company.
• Broad product law experience spanning IP strategy, software licensing, open source compliance, and product agreements.
• Ability to work directly with product and engineering teams; agile environments.
• Regulatory fluency across industries relevant to Beacon's portfolio.
• Experience advising on AI/ML products and data rights is a strong plus.
• Background in patent strategy, trademark oversight, IP ownership, and licensing structures.
• Experience with IP/tech due diligence in M&A and post-close integration.

Responsibilities

• Embed as the legal partner to Beacon's product and engineering teams and portfolio companies.
• Advise on new features, roadmaps, and go-to-market launches; identify risks early.
• Develop scalable legal support models for portfolio product teams.
• Own Beacon's IP portfolio strategy; manage patents, trademarks, and licenses.
• Draft, review, and negotiate SaaS, API, and tech agreements; maintain standard templates.
• Build and govern open source compliance across the portfolio.
• Lead product/IP due diligence for acquisitions; advise on IP integration.
• Advise on AI/ML legality, data rights, and model licensing.
• Provide regulatory guidance across industries; collaborate on privacy matters.
• Develop scalable templates, playbooks, and use AI tools to speed reviews.
