Job summary

Beacon Software is seeking a commercially minded Product Counsel to join our legal team as the primary product and IP specialist. You will partner with Beacon and portfolio companies’ product and engineering functions, advising on new features, IP ownership, and licensing matters across diverse industries.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school; member in good standing of at least one bar (CA/NY preferred).
• 5–7 years of product, technology, and IP law experience at a top-tier firm, or 4–5 years in-house product and IP counsel at a tech company.
• Broad product law experience: IP strategy, portfolio management, software/SaaS licensing, open source compliance, and product-facing agreements.

Responsibilities

• Serve as embedded legal partner to Beacon's product and engineering teams across the portfolio.
• Develop and execute IP strategy including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
• Draft and negotiate product-facing agreements including SaaS licenses, API terms, and platform contracts.
• Build and maintain open source governance, license compliance, and internal playbooks.
• Oversee IP due diligence in M&A and advise on IP integration post-close.
• Advise on AI/ML product legality, data rights, and model licensing.
• Ensure regulatory compliance across industries and align product features with legal requirements.
