Job summary

Chainguard seeks its first IP/Product Counsel to protect, monetize, and scale our open source-facing products. You will own our growing IP portfolio, lead enforcement when licenses are violated, and collaborate with product and engineering teams on new products and features.

This role intersects IP and product, requiring fluency in open source licensing (MIT, Apache 2.0, BSD, GPL, LGPL, MPL) and experience drafting product terms and terms of service.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of legal experience with IP, trademark and copyright.
• Strong knowledge of open source licensing.
• Experience advising on product launches and terms of service.
• Able to work with product and engineering teams across launches.

Responsibilities

• Own and grow Chainguard's international IP portfolio.
• Lead IP enforcement, including cease-and-desist actions.
• Serve as go-to legal resource for open source licensing.
• Advise on licensing, IP and ToS for multiple launches.
• Draft and review product terms and ToS for launches.
• Advise on licensing in partner and joint development agreements.
• Partner with product/engineering early to address legal considerations.
• Build scalable IP processes, templates, and resources.
