Job description

We’re partnering with a fast-growing consumer fintech company that is building technology-driven financial products designed to expand access to financial services for consumers.

The role

We are seeking a Product Counsel to serve as a day-to-day legal partner to product and business teams across a growing portfolio of consumer financial products.

You’ll be involved throughout the product lifecycle—from early-stage concepts and product design through launch, iteration, and ongoing regulatory considerations. This role offers substantial ownership and exposure to the intersection of consumer financial services, technology, regulation, and product development.

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in consumer financial services law and is excited to deepen their expertise within a rapidly evolving fintech environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Partner directly with Product and Engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle, from initial concept through launch and ongoing iteration.
  • Advise on the legal and regulatory considerations associated with consumer financial products and emerging product initiatives.
  • Research and interpret federal and state consumer financial regulations and translate complex requirements into practical business guidance.
  • Advise on areas including consumer credit, credit reporting, payments, earned wage access, lending structures, and related financial products.
  • Support products operating through both bank-partner and direct-to-consumer models.
  • Monitor developments from federal and state regulators and courts and assess their impact on products and business operations.
  • Advise on consumer communications, marketing initiatives, disclosures, and related regulatory requirements.
  • Support privacy and consumer data matters, including the collection, use, and sharing of consumer information.
  • Assist with state licensing matters, regulatory filings, renewals, and examinations.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate consumer-facing terms, disclosures, commercial agreements, and marketing materials.
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Risk, Marketing, Operations, and other stakeholders to develop practical legal frameworks that support responsible growth.
  • Explore and leverage emerging AI tools and technologies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of legal workflows.
What We’re Looking For
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the California State Bar or eligibility to practice as registered in-house counsel in California.
  • Approximately 5–8 years of legal experience, with meaningful exposure to consumer financial services, fintech, financial regulation, or a closely related practice.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal consumer finance laws, including TILA, ECOA, FCRA, and EFTA.
  • Experience with at least one relevant area such as consumer lending, credit products, credit reporting, payments, earned wage access, or bank partnership models.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving environment where legal questions may not always have straightforward answers.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, drafting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into concise, practical guidance for non-legal stakeholders.
  • Sound judgment and a commercially oriented approach to identifying and managing risk.
  • Comfort working cross-functionally with technical and business teams.
  • Interest in applying AI and emerging technology to legal work and workflows.
