Produce Clerk

Primary Responsibilities

1. Greet, assist, and politely ring out all customers.
2. Maintain standards for perishables and stay updated on safety procedures.
3. Ensure health and safety codes, monitor pricing and expiration dates, and keep the area organized.
4. Record and maintain cooler/freezer temperatures and perform maintenance.
5. Stay informed about safety standards and chemical/machine usage within the department.
6. Adjust product displays to ensure they are full, visually appealing, rotated, and seasonally appropriate.
7. Prepare the backroom for receiving merchandise, check quality, and verify invoices.
8. Calculate retail prices, update price tags, and supervise manual labeling.
9. Manage damaged or unsalable products, including returns and markdowns.

Supervision: Reports directly to the Produce Department Manager.

Qualifications

• Basic Mathematics skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Experience with produce in a grocery setting preferred.

Specific Tasks

• Lift and move up to 50 lbs., including overhead.
• Maintain signage and pricing.
• Care for signs, banners, and clean daily debris.

Work Environment

Indoor environment with temperature and humidity transitions due to backdoor, compressors, and refrigeration areas.
