Job summary

Baseten is seeking a Procurement Lead to build our procurement function from the ground up. You will design company-wide processes, policies, and systems, partnering with Finance, Legal, Security, Compliance, IT, and business owners to enable scalable purchasing.

You will own vendor onboarding, due diligence, RFPs, and negotiations, while creating guardrails and a scalable operating model for a fast-growing tech company. Based in SF or NY with in-person work 3+ days/week.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive procurement experience in a high-growth tech company.
• Experience building or significantly maturing a procurement function from scratch.
• Experience running RFPs and vendor selection for business stakeholders.
• Experience with strategic sourcing and contract negotiations across spend categories.
• Experience partnering with Security, Compliance, and Legal on vendor risk assessments.
• Ability to operate with ambiguity and build structure where none exists.
• Strong cross-functional partnership with Finance, Legal, Security, Compliance, IT, and business owners.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement Baseten's first company-wide procurement process and workflows.
• Establish procurement policies and spend thresholds for a high-growth business.
• Design scalable processes without adding friction for teams buying.
• Define procurement's operating model and roadmap as the function scales.
• Build out procurement workflows in the P2P platform (requisition, approval, POs).
• Build reporting and visibility into spend by category, vendor, and department.
• Own vendor onboarding, due diligence, and risk assessment with Security, Compliance, and Legal.
• Lead or support strategic sourcing, RFPs, and contract negotiations.
• Develop a vendor management framework covering performance, risk, and renewals.
• Partner with Legal, Security, Compliance, IT, and business owners to fit workflows to teams.
• Act as trusted advisor on sourcing strategy and vendor selection, not a gatekeeper.
• Establish procurement controls for audit readiness, SOX compliance, and data privacy.
