Job summary

Komatsu is seeking a Buyer I in Peoria, IL to manage PO placement and inventory for key commodities. You will coordinate with suppliers, maintain data integrity in purchasing systems, and drive cost and inventory reductions while ensuring accurate technical data accompanies each order.

The role emphasizes proactive supplier management, expedites when needed, and collaboration across teams to support production efficiency. Requires a BS and 2–3 years purchasing experience.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Business Administration, Industrial Management, or Engineering, with 2–3 years in Purchasing or Materials Management.
• Ability to negotiate effectively.
• Understanding of material planning systems and BOMs.
• Knowledge of cost accounting principles and value engineering for cost reduction.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Purchase Order Administration for assigned commodities: plan orders to current requirements, place with suppliers, releases against blanket purchase orders, determine delivery lot sizes.
• Inventory Control for assigned commodities via maintenance of planning policies.
• Ensure current technical data is dispatched with each purchase order.
• Maintain data accuracy in PC-based spreadsheets/databases reflecting the main ERP system.
• Process rejected materials: rework, returns, reorders, supplier recovery of scrap and rework.
• Expedite commodities to obtain acceptable delivery dates.
• Resolve receiving or invoicing discrepancies.
• Seek continuous cost and inventory reductions across duties.
• Monitor supplier performance and suggest corrective actions.
• Make field trips to suppliers to maintain product/communication relations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
