Job description

Apollo Mechanical Contractors is looking for a Procurement Engineer who thrives in a fast-moving environment, learns quickly, enjoys solving problems, and takes pride in getting things across the finish line.

Our Procurement Engineers work at the intersection of construction, engineering, suppliers, project execution, and purchasing. The job is to understand what our project teams need, identify how to best source it, work through technical and commercial questions, and make sure the right material gets to the right place at the right time for the best total cost of ownership.

At Apollo, procurement continues well beyond issuing a purchase order. Our internal procurement model ties purchasing decisions to project schedules, material availability, supplier performance, cost, and field execution

What You'll Do
  • Process a high volume of purchasing requests accurately and efficiently.
  • Solicit and evaluate supplier quotations.
  • Place purchase orders and follow them through delivery.
  • Coordinate with project teams to understand material requirements, specifications, quantities, and schedule.
  • Research unfamiliar materials, equipment, manufacturers, and suppliers.
  • Read and interpret specifications, drawings, data sheets, quotes, and other technical documentation.
  • Identify discrepancies, missing information, lead-time risks, and potential sourcing problems before they become field problems.
  • Track orders, acknowledgements, lead times, shipments, and delivery commitments.
  • Work directly with suppliers to resolve shortages, substitutions, damaged material, incorrect orders, pricing discrepancies, and other issues.
  • Compare sourcing options based on more than initial price, including availability, lead time, freight, compliance, quality, and project risk.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing documentation and communicate changes quickly.
  • Build productive relationships with suppliers, project managers, engineers, field personnel, accounting, and other Apollo teams.
The right person is:
  • Hungry. You like getting things done and naturally look for the next problem to solve.
  • Smart and curious. When you encounter an unfamiliar product or problem, you start asking questions and figuring it out.
  • Fast without being careless. You can process a significant volume of work while maintaining accuracy.
  • Organized. You can keep numerous open items moving without losing track of details.
  • Accountable. When you own something, other people don't have to chase you for it.
  • Urgent without being frantic. You understand that people may be waiting on the material you're responsible for.
  • A good communicator. You communicate clearly, directly, and professionally.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity. You don't need every answer handed to you before you begin solving the problem.
  • Team oriented. You treat internal customers and suppliers with respect and want the people around you to succeed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage numerous competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
Benefits
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision
  • 401K with Company Match
  • STD, LTD, Voluntary Life benefits
  • Paid Time off
