Job summary

Air Liquide Global E&C Solutions in Houston, TX seeks a Process & Systems Engineering Associate to support and advance safety standards and deliver robust cryogenic and air-gas process solutions. You will collaborate with local and international teams, develop process design basis for proposals, and perform in-house process calculations.

The role requires a B.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, strong thermodynamics, and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support and advance safety standards.
  • Align with global/local engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with local and international teams.
  • Contribute to process/system engineering in projects.
  • Understand customer needs and design optimized cryogenic gas solutions.
  • Develop process design basis for proposals.
  • Perform process calculations using in-house tools.
  • Deliver process docs: mass/energy balance, PFD/BFD, datasheets, P&IDs.
  • Implement plant design philosophy as needed.
  • Provide feedback to customer RFPs.
  • Support FTO studies and patent reviews.
  • Contribute to technical/cost studies and vendor evaluation.
  • Attend and contribute in review meetings.
  • Contribute to in-house process database.
  • Implement improvements from past projects.
  • Improve engineering practices and guidelines.
  • Support site construction, startup, tests, troubleshooting.
  • Learn Air Liquide technologies as needed.
  • Hybrid remote/onsite schedule per policy.

Process & Systems Engineering Associate

Location: Houston, TX

Job Duties
  • Support and advance the company’s safety standards.
  • Align with E&C Global and Local engineering standards and other industry standards.
  • Work as a collaborative team member with local and/or international team members.
  • Contribute to process, solution development, or systems engineering within solution/product development and/or service projects.
  • Understand the needs of customers and design optimized, comprehensive, high‑performing cryogenic or air-gas solutions.
  • Participate in developing process design basis for proposals.
  • Perform process calculations (pressure profile, process simulation, line sizing) using in‑house tools.
  • Develop and provide process deliverables (material and utility balance, equipment sizing, process description, PFD, BFD, datasheets, P&IDs).
  • Understand and implement plant design philosophy (winterization, derime, pressure circuits) as needed.
  • Provide feedback and inputs to the Request For Proposal (RFP) of the customer.
  • Support development of the freedom to operate (FTO) for the process solution and study patents as required.
  • Contribute to technical and cost studies and vendor information evaluation for main equipment.
  • Attend and contribute to review meetings (internal/external) and complete action items.
  • Contribute to in‑house process database.
  • Understand and implement capitalization and improvement ideas from previous projects/commissioning/operations issues.
  • Participate in improving the engineering practices, guidelines, and/or procedures when applicable.
  • Support site construction activities, start‑up, performance test and/or plant troubleshooting.
  • Learn required AL technologies as needed on assignments.
  • Combination of remote working at home and office schedule as per company policy.

Education and Experience
  • Mandatory:
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Very good knowledge in thermodynamics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong customer‑centric mindset.
  • Proactive learning.
  • Proactive support for diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Short-term travel locally or internationally required.
  • Preferred:
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering.
  • At least 2–5 years of industrial engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of industrial gas plants.
  • Knowledge of process development and design for cryogenic industrial gas plants.
  • Understanding of vendor equipment and instrumentation used in industrial gas plant processes.
  • Knowledge of project development and/or execution relating to Process and P&IDs scope.
  • Licensed Engineer In Training (EIT).
  • Knowledge of HYSYS or Aspen Plus software.
  • Proficient in German and/or French languages.
