DEKRA North America’s Princeton Process Safety Laboratory in Princeton, NJ is seeking a Laboratory Engineer/ Scientist to design and conduct custom calorimetry tests for client processes. You will work closely with customers, analyze results, and help ensure safety and compliance across facilities.

The role requires a chemistry background, hands-on lab experience, and excellent communication skills while contributing to a safe, high‑performing lab team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, chemistry or related field.
• 2+ years of work experience in a chemistry laboratory.
• Experience in laboratory calorimetry highly valued.
• Must understand good laboratory practices, laboratory equipment, and PPE usage.
• Laboratory work experience in related areas or pilot scale plant setting.
• Must have good written and verbal communication skills.

• Design and execute custom thermal stability experiments interfacing with customers as necessary.
• Plan, set-up, and trouble shoot lab scale equipment.
• Independently conduct standard and non-standard testing on a daily basis.
• Manage, report and analyze data in a professional and standardized manner.

• Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment by actively participating, taking responsibility, and following established procedures and policies.

Job description

A Day in the Life and the Impact You’ll Make:

As a Laboratory Engineer/ Scientist, you will be responsible for working directly with customers to understand their processes, and design custom calorimetry tests. The Laboratory Engineer/ Scientist may also be responsible for conducting testing and reporting information which determines the combustibility, explosibility and flammability properties of client-provided materials. This role directly supports process and production safety at our client’s facilities. The information generated from this testing will also provide support to our Consulting team when generating client-specific reports to help clients better understand production risksduring material processing and production of final products.

What You’ll Do:

Physical Considerations:

• This is a lab-based position with extended periods of time spent wearing PPE; required PPE is hearing protection, eye protection, and the potential for any other necessary personal protective equipment. Personal protection equipment are furnished by DEKRA. Must be able to wear a Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR) and pass a respirator medical exam.
• Regular lifting of <30lb; Occasional lifting of <50 lbs. Ability to move and conduct work with full range of motion.
• Extended periods of computer-based work
• Physical requirements include (up to extended periods): sitting, walking, standing, use of stairs, bending, and reaching.
• The position is in a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.
• May work around and/or be exposed to chemical, electrical, and mechanical hazards
• May be exposed to potential loud noise levels, chemicals, dust, allergens, irritants, controlled substances, and extreme temperatures

Compensation:

The base pay for this position is $65,000 to $90,000 per year. Actual pay is based on several factors including position-related knowledge, skills, and experience
