Job summary

Mariana Minerals is seeking a Process Safety Management (PSM) Engineer to build and continuously improve the company\'s process safety and major hazard risk management program.

This role will support labs, pilot operations, process development, scale-up projects, and future operating facilities by leading structured risk assessments and translating findings into practical engineering, operational, and safety controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in chemical engineering or related technical field.
• 5+ years in process safety, plant design, or risk management in minerals, mining/metallurgy, chemicals, or related industries.
• Hands-on PHAs, HAZOPs, HAZIDs, LOPAs, MOC, PSSR, or similar risk management experience.
• Ability to read PFDs/P&IDs and equipment data sheets.
• Knowledge of OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, IFC/IBC concepts, NFPA standards and related safety codes.
• Strong technical writing, meeting facilitation, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Administer PSM workflows and risk study planning, documentation, and closeout verification.
• Lead PHAs, HAZOPs, HAZIDs, LOPAs, what-if studies, bowties, and other risk assessments.
• Support MOC and Pre-Startup Safety Review processes with startup readiness and safeguards reviews.
• Review PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specs, and control narratives for safety implications.
• Provide input on life safety, fire protection, ventilation, and emergency shutdown design.
• Partner with SMEs, external engineers, insurers, and AHJs to translate codes into requirements.
• Develop and maintain process safety information, hazard registers, and risk templates.
• Evaluate safeguards using hierarchy of controls and IPL concepts; verify in the field.
• Support incident investigations and corrective action development.
• Embed process safety into project planning, commissioning, and field operations.
• Support broader Health & Safety initiatives, HazCom, contractor safety, and field audits.
