Job summary

Shell is seeking a Process Safety Engineer in Louisiana to oversee that new facilities, modifications, and capital projects are designed, constructed, commissioned, and handed over safely. You will work with project teams to identify process safety risks and ensure safeguards are effective throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in Process Safety or related roles.
• Experience in refining, petrochemical, chemical manufacturing, oil & gas, LNG, or high-hazard industries.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide process safety support throughout the capital project lifecycle from concept through commissioning and handover.
• Lead, facilitate, or support process hazard assessments including HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, and other risk studies.
• Identify process safety risks and support development of effective mitigation strategies and safeguards.
• Review engineering deliverables (P&IDs, plot plans, equipment layouts, process safety information, operating documentation) to ensure safety requirements are incorporated.
• Support Management of Change (MOC) activities for capital projects.
• Participate in design reviews, technical assurance reviews, and risk assessments to support safe project execution.
• Document, track, and close process safety action items and recommendations.
• Support commissioning readiness, PSSR, startup activities, and operational handovers.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, HSSE, and Project teams to embed process safety requirements.
• Communicate process safety risks and recommendations to project stakeholders and leadership.
• Support incident investigations and lessons learned.
