Job summary

Lubrizol Corporation in Deer Park, TX, seeks a senior Process Safety Engineer to lead the site’s PSM/RMP programs and drive continuous safety improvements. You will implement and manage hazard analyses, regulatory compliance, and risk-reduction initiatives to protect workers and operations.

As a key technical authority, you will mentor teams, guide ALARP evaluations, and support audits and training across the site to ensure world‑class process safety performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering required.
  • 8+ years in chemical/petrochemical manufacturing with direct PSM responsibility.
  • Hands-on hazard identification and risk analysis (PHA/LOPA) experience.
  • Experience supporting or leading PSM/RMP regulatory programs.
  • Experience with relief sizing and facility siting studies.
  • PHA/LOPA facilitation experience.
  • Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards (ASME/API/NFPA/ANSI/IEC).
  • Experience with process safety software such as PHA-Pro/PHAST or similar.

Responsibilities

How You’ll Make An Impact

As a Process Safety Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable operations at the Lubrizol Deer Park facility. You’ll be accountable for the implementation, management, and continuous improvement of the site’s Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) programs while providing expert engineering leadership across the plant. In this role, you will:

  • Provide day‑to‑day process safety support for assigned operating units.
  • Facilitate PHA revalidations, Capital Project PHAs, and LOPA studies, including preparation for and completion of PHA management reviews and final reports.
  • Participate in and lead incident investigations as needed; support classification of process safety incidents.
  • Review and support Management of Change (MOC) requests, including determining when PHAs are required; participate in PSSRs.
  • Manage PSM action item tracking, including database entry, follow‑up, and facilitation of timely closure.
  • Provide guidance on ALARP determinations and Independent Protection Layer (IPL) identification.
  • Support site PSM KPIs, update Reactivity Matrices, and contribute to PSM Manual updates and revisions.
  • Support compliance with the ASV program, including gap assessments and development of compliance plans.
  • Manage and drive execution of strategic site PSM initiatives, serving as the primary PSM point of contact.
  • Provide regulatory compliance guidance for PSM/RMP programs and advise managers, supervisors, engineers, and contractor safety representatives.
  • Participate in site and corporate process safety initiatives, supporting standardization of Lubrizol PSM/RMP work processes.
  • Perform gap analyses to align site practices with corporate standards and industry best practices.
  • Support and lead PSM audits at the site and regional level as required.
  • Develop and deliver Process Safety training programs for site personnel.
Required Qualifications That Enable Your Success
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience in a chemical or petrochemical manufacturing environment with direct PSM responsibility.
  • Hands‑on experience in hazard identification and risk analysis, including PHAs and LOPA.
  • Experience supporting or leading PSM/RMP regulatory compliance programs.
  • Experience with facility siting studies and relief sizing.
  • Prior PHA / LOPA facilitation experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of industry codes, standards, and RAGAGEP, including ASME, API, NFPA, ANSI, IEC, and similar.Experience with process safety software tools such as PHA‑Pro, PHA‑Works,
  • PHAST, or similar.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a change agent, influencing decisions and driving continuous improvement across organizations.
