Job summary

Lubrizol Corporation in Deer Park, TX is seeking a Process Safety Engineer to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operations at the Deer Park facility. You will lead PSM/RMP programs, guide incident investigations, and support continuous improvement across the site.

The role requires 8+ years in chemical manufacturing with direct PSM responsibility, strong hazard analysis skills, and experience with PHA/LOPA and industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • 8+ years in chemical/petrochemical with direct PSM responsibility.
  • Hands-on hazard identification and risk analysis (PHA/LOPA).
  • Experience supporting or leading PSM/RMP regulatory programs.
  • Experience with facility siting and relief sizing.
  • Strong knowledge of ASME, API, NFPA, ANSI, IEC, and similar standards.
  • Experience with process safety software: PHA-Pro, PHA-Works, PHAST.
  • Proven ability to influence decisions and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day‑to‑day process safety support for assigned operating units.
  • Lead PHA revalidations, Capital Project PHAs, and LOPA studies.
  • Participate in and lead incident investigations; support classification of PS incidents.
  • Review and support MOC requests; determine when PHAs are required.
  • Manage PSM action item tracking and timely closure.
  • Provide guidance on ALARP determinations and IPL identification.
  • Support site PSM KPIs, Reactivity Matrices, and PSM Manual updates.
  • Support compliance with the ASV program; develop compliance plans.
  • Drive execution of site PSM initiatives as primary PSM contact.
  • Provide regulatory guidance for PSM/RMP programs to management.
  • Participate in site and corporate process safety initiatives; standardize PSM/RMP work.
  • Perform gap analyses to align site practices with standards.
  • Support and lead PSM audits at site and regional level.
  • Develop and deliver Process Safety training programs for site personnel.

How You’ll Make an Impact

As a Process Safety Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable operations at the Lubrizol Deer Park facility. You’ll be accountable for the implementation, management, and continuous improvement of the site’s Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) programs while providing expert engineering leadership across the plant. In this role, you will:

  • Provide day‑to‑day process safety support for assigned operating units.
  • Facilitate PHA revalidations, Capital Project PHAs, and LOPA studies, including preparation for and completion of PHA management reviews and final reports.
  • Participate in and lead incident investigations as needed; support classification of process safety incidents.
  • Review and support Management of Change (MOC) requests, including determining when PHAs are required; participate in PSSRs.
  • Manage PSM action item tracking, including database entry, follow‑up, and facilitation of timely closure.
  • Provide guidance on ALARP determinations and Independent Protection Layer (IPL) identification.
  • Support site PSM KPIs, update Reactivity Matrices, and contribute to PSM Manual updates and revisions.
  • Support compliance with the ASV program, including gap assessments and development of compliance plans.
  • Manage and drive execution of strategic site PSM initiatives, serving as the primary PSM point of contact.
  • Provide regulatory compliance guidance for PSM/RMP programs and advise managers, supervisors, engineers, and contractor safety representatives.
  • Participate in site and corporate process safety initiatives, supporting standardization of Lubrizol PSM/RMP work processes.
  • Perform gap analyses to align site practices with corporate standards and industry best practices.
  • Support and lead PSM audits at the site and regional level as required.
  • Develop and deliver Process Safety training programs for site personnel.
Required Qualifications that Enable Your Success
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience in a chemical or petrochemical manufacturing environment with direct PSM responsibility.
  • Hands‑on experience in hazard identification and risk analysis, including PHAs and LOPA.
  • Experience supporting or leading PSM/RMP regulatory compliance programs.
  • Experience with facility siting studies and relief sizing.
  • Strong working knowledge of industry codes, standards, and RAGAGEP, including ASME, API, NFPA, ANSI, IEC, and similar.Experience with process safety software tools such as PHA‑Pro, PHA‑Works,
  • PHAST, or similar.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a change agent, influencing decisions and driving continuous improvement across organizations.
