Job summary

Oerlikon Group in Westbury, NY is seeking a Process Technician for the 1st shift (6:00am to 2:30pm). You will set up, operate, monitor, and troubleshoot thermal spray (plasma), powder manufacturing, and auxiliary equipment to ensure safe, efficient production and high-quality output.

Responsibilities include equipment setup, materials handling, preventive maintenance, calibrations, and documentation in the MPP.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–3 years of manufacturing, machine operation, or process technician experience preferred.
  • Experience with thermal spray, plasma, HVOF, or similar industrial processes preferred.
  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting and equipment maintenance knowledge.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read gauges, operating parameters, and work instructions.
  • Experience using microscopes and measuring devices for quality verification.
  • Ability to safely operate industrial equipment and material handling devices.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass respiratory and medical evaluations required for specialized PPE.

Responsibilities

  • Load, transfer, and handle raw materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, and hoists.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and basic repairs to maximize uptime.
  • Monitor product quality and equipment performance during production.
  • Calibrate, configure, and adjust thermal spray guns and auxiliary equipment.
  • Monitor process parameters and make adjustments as required.
  • Use gauges and measuring devices to verify quality and equipment condition.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues and process instability.
  • Document equipment settings and maintenance activities in required systems.
  • Perform equipment tear-downs and rework activities when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment per safety standards.

The Process Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, monitoring, and troubleshooting thermal spray (plasma) equipment, powder manufacturing equipment, and auxiliary equipment. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and adherence to quality and safety standards to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent production.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Set up, start, operate, adjust, and monitor manufacturing equipment in accordance with approved procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Load, transfer, and handle raw materials, components, and finished goods using forklifts, pallet jacks, hoists, and other approved equipment.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, cleaning, inspections, and basic repairs to maximize equipment uptime.
  • Monitor product quality and equipment performance throughout production runs.
  • Calibrate, configure, and adjust thermal spray guns and auxiliary equipment according to established process requirements.
  • Monitor process parameters including voltage, current, gas flow, and powder feed rates, making adjustments as required.
  • Utilize gauges, microscopes, measuring devices, and hand tools to verify product quality and equipment condition.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues including clogged hoses, nozzle wear, leaks, and process instability.
  • Document equipment settings, maintenance activities, process parameters, and troubleshooting actions within the Manufacturing Process Plan (MPP) and other required systems.
  • Perform equipment tear-downs, component replacement, corrective maintenance, and rework activities when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company safety standards.
Your Profile:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

For individuals assigned, hired to work or working remotely in/out of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Nevada, Washington State, Massachusetts, or New York City, Oerlikon is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the current compensation range for this position, which is $26 to $32 per hour. Some positions within Oerlikon may also offer eligibility to participate in a discretionary incentive program. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for the role will be based on a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, internal equity, job location, work experience, education, training, certifications, licenses, etc. Therefore, as compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each individual, it is likely that not all applicants will be hired at the highest end of the listed compensation range. Our total compensation package goes beyond base compensation and it will include a competitive benefits package starting with 2 weeks paid time off accrued on a monthly basis, 12 holidays, 48 hours personal/sick time (exception for NY where we follow State law,) medical, dental, vision, 401K, holidays, pet insurance and tuition reimbursement all effective day one of hire.
