Job summary

Oerlikon is seeking a PrC CSC Semiconductor Manager for our Amherst, NY facility. The role focuses on new coating applications, process development, and project management for semiconductor coatings. You will lead technical initiatives, coordinate with Sales and Operations, and drive R&D to production while maintaining quality, cost and timing targets.

Travel up to 20% to US, Taiwan, Japan, and Europe is required. A Bachelor’s in Engineering and 5+ years of PVD/PACDV experience are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years experience in PVD/PACDV or surface treatment technologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline (graduate degree may substitute experience).
  • Ability and experience in project planning to support products and customers’ needs.
  • Broad R&D and commercialization experience from concept to product launch.
  • Strong PVD and PACVD process knowledge.
  • Proficient in Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology.
  • Effective problem-solving and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with SEM, EDX, hardness testing equipment, profilometry.

Job description

We are looking for a PrC CSC Semiconductor Manager for our Amherst, NY facility. In this role you will focus primarily on new coating applications, coating modifications, process development, customer’s project management, and advanced analysis. This position is accountable for providing leadership to accomplish technical initiatives aligned with the Precision Components Semiconductor coating business. The PrC Semiconductor CSC Manager converts strategic customer needs into safe, commercially viable, high-quality solutions that meet cost and timing targets. He reports to Product Line Manager – Components, Americas. This position will also support and manage R&D projects related to the development of new processes and coatings that will meet the needs of the semiconductor market. While collaboration with cross‑functional teams is required, this role carries no managerial oversight.

Your Responsibilities
  • Create and execute plans in collaboration with Sales and Operations to increase the introduction of new coating technologies and processes that help profitably expand the company’s geographic and industrial footprint.
  • Interacts with Product Managers to provide technical solutions while making sure that the customer requirements are fully understood.
  • Develops and fosters customer relationships to obtain a good understanding of customer requirements and objectives.
  • Serves as the primary technical point of contact for key semiconductor customers.
  • Leads the implementation of sampling and prototype projects from inception to production.
  • Responsible for the technical realization of all process steps including coating, testing, fixturing, cleaning and other pre- and post-treatments.
  • Performs R&D activities to develop and transfer new coatings and processed to production.
  • Must be able to move technologies developed in R&D to production level.
  • Manages the process qualification and acceptance testing of new process equipment locally.
  • Provides training/ guidance to newly hired engineers that will be employed at Oerlikon semiconductor product coating sites.
  • Assists service technicians with equipment related troubleshooting when required.
  • Works with outside vendors to establish technical specifications for new equipment related to coating processes as well as upgrades to existing coating equipment.
  • Gives input on improvements to existing production processes and procedures.
  • Responsible for working with drafting and engineering (CSC) group, while assisting with mechanical design of fixturing and process related equipment needed for semiconductor products.
  • Must have good understanding of characterization techniques to analyze new coatings as well as troubleshoot quality issues related to coating processes.
  • Provide formal reports to customers that detail development / failure analysis results, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Follows the Oerlikon GATE processes and documentation.
  • Helps resolve quality and production process related issues as needed.
Your Profile

  • Ability to understand and interpret technical requirements (i.e., technical drawings, prints, etc.).
  • Effective verbal /writing skills and strong presentation skills.
  • Good communication with many different people with many different backgrounds and education levels.
  • Proficiency working with MS Office is required.
  • Travel up to 20% (US, Taiwan, Japan, Europe). Oerlikon sites, customer support, and trade shows.
  • Semiconductor industry experience preferred.

Some positions within Oerlikon may also offer eligibility to participate in a discretionary incentive program. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for the role will be based on a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, internal equity, job location, work experience, education, training, certifications, licenses, etc. Therefore, as compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each individual, it is likely that not all applicants will be hired at the highest end of the listed compensation range. Our total compensation package goes beyond base compensation and it will include a competitive benefits package starting with 2 weeks paid time off accrued on a monthly basis, 12 holidays, 48 hours personal/sick time (exception for NY where we follow State law,) medical, dental, vision, 401K, holidays, pet insurance and tuition reimbursement all effective day one of hire.
