Job summary

Athens Services is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator – Organics to process green waste into high-quality compost and mulch. Operate loaders and sorting, grinding, and screening equipment while maintaining safe conditions and adhering to manuals and procedures.

The role requires basic safety literacy, strong communication, and the ability to work with a team, with potential overtime and a focus on producing top-quality organic materials.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to read and understand safety rules, operating manuals, and maintenance instructions for equipment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational abilities.
• Ability to meet physical requirements of the job with or without accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe operating conditions of equipment and work area.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of equipment.
• Collaborate with team to complete major tasks.
• Grade materials to produce final compost/mulch products.
• Immediately report unsafe equipment or actions to supervision.
• Work overtime as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Summary

The Heavy Equipment Operator – Organics processes green waste and other organic material by using loaders and various sorting, grinding, and screening equipment throughout the day to produce high quality compost and mulch.

Job Description

• Essential Job Functions: Maintain safe operating conditions of equipment and area at all times
• Perform pre and post trip inspection of all equipment operated daily
• Work with peers as a team in completing major tasks successfully
• Perform material grading and properly process material to create final product
• Immediately report any unsafe equipment or actions to direct supervision
• Work overtime as needed
• Performs other duties as needed by direct supervision.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma and/or GED
• Must be able to read and understand safety rules, operating manuals, and maintenance instructions for equipment
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Exceptional organizational skills
• Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual – English/Spanish.
• Class A or B commercial driver’s license
• Acceptable driving record

Physical/Environmental Demands

Physical: Standing, walking, sitting, seeing, hearing, touching, stooping, lifting, & smelling continuously. Problem solving, oral/written communication, analytical ability, concentration, & interpersonal abilities continuously. Eye/hand coordination, visual depth perception, handling, & wrist motion continuously.

Environmental: Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, grease, oil, chemicals, wet/hot conditions, windy conditions & noise continuously. Exposure to flying debris and sharp objects occasionally. Works outside only.

Salary

$26.05 - $29.49 per hour
