Job summary

Athens Services is seeking a Plant Maintenance Technician to lead the maintenance team at our MRF facility in Los Angeles. You will troubleshoot, repair, and optimize conveyors, electronics (motor controls, VFD, PLC Allen Bradley) and hydraulics to ensure smooth operations.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager and Supervisor, you’ll mentor staff, manage parts and inventory, and promote safe work practices while aligning with regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3 years maintenance experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Strong Excel/Word/PowerPoint skills.
  • Ability to learn internal maintenance software quickly.
  • Experience leading maintenance teams.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee maintenance dept with Supervisors and Manager; review processes and procedures to ensure quality inspections/repairs.
  • Ensure proper parts inventory management and organization; perform regular inspections.
  • Promote positive teamwork and safe working behaviors.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to maintenance staff.
  • Ensure maintenance employees have tools, equipment and supplies to perform tasks.
  • Promote use of relevant technology and information systems to improve shop performance.

Summary Athens Services invites you to join our team as a Plant Maintenance Technician, where your expertise and leadership experience will drive our operations forward. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager and Supervisor, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the seamless operation of our industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. With experience in an industrial-style environment and fabrication knowledge, you'll troubleshoot and diagnose issues, dismantle devices, and expertly repair components. Your keen eye for detail will spot operational challenges, allowing you to provide valuable insights and maintain our MRF facility. Position Summary

The Plant Maintenance Tech is responsible for the efficient operation of the maintenance department. Prioritizes workload according to safety factors and operational needs and ensures workload is evenly distributed. Reviews productivity levels and the progress of all repairs. Monitors the preventative maintenance programs to ensure they are done in a timely manner consistent with all regulatory requirements. Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment by ensuring safe work practices are followed and monthly safety meetings are conducted. Administer company policy and procedures and promote positive employee relations. Candidates should have knowledge in troubleshooting and/or working with Conveyors, electronics (motor controls, VFD, PLC (Allen Bradley) and Hydraulics.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assist Maintenance Supervisors and/or Manager to oversee the maintenance department by regularly reviewing and auditing processes/procedures to ensure that the maintenance employees are performing quality inspections/repairs, documenting all repairs, and making process alterations as needed.
  • Ensures proper parts inventory management and organization. Performs regular inspections to guarantee processes are being followed.
  • Promote positive team work and safe working behaviors.
  • Provide proper coaching and/or mentorship to all maintenance employees that will help promote a healthy and positive work environment.
  • Ensures all maintenance employees have tools, equipment and supplies to perform maintenance and/or daily tasks.
  • Promote the use of relevant technology and information systems that improve shop performance such as Dossier.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma and/or GED
  • 3 years Maintenance experience and/or support of maintenance department.
  • Bilingual (English /Spanish).
  • Self-motivated, highly competitive, and results-oriented with a proven and documented history of success.
  • Proficiency level skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and communicating using email.
  • Ability to learn our internal maintenance software quickly.
  • Work experience in successfully implementing safety programs and processes.
  • Must have leadership experience, organizational, problem solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Highly proficient in maintenance and shop operations.
  • An extensive background as a mechanic with three or more years of hands‑on experience is preferred.
  • Waste industry experience.
  • Mechanical school certificate(s)
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Valid Class "A or B" license. Good driving record
  • Trade School Certification.
  • Bilingual English / Spanish.
  • Welder certification.
  • Waste, rock & sand, concrete, and/or asphalt industry experience.

Schedule

6AM - 2:30PM (Mon-Fri) + Every other Saturday

Pay Range

$34.56 - $36.31
