Job summary

Actalent in Somerset, NJ, seeks a Chemical Process Development Engineer to support scale-up from lab to pilot and production. You will help prepare PFDs, P&IDs, mass and energy balances, heat transfer, fluid flow, and equipment sizing while ensuring compliance with API, ASME, OSHA, EPA and process safety standards.

The role requires a BS in chemical engineering (MS preferred) and 1+ year in chemical process development or manufacturing; strong data analytics and design-of-experiments experience

Qualifications

• Bachelors in chemical engineering required; masters preferred.
• 1+ year of experience in chemical process development, scale-up, or manufacturing.
• Knowledge of process engineering documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, Plant 3D, equipment specs).
• Experience with specialty chemicals, batch processing, or complex formulated products is preferred.
• Strong data analytics to identify trends, process variation, and opportunities for improvement.

Responsibilities

• Support design, development, scale-up, and implementation of chemical manufacturing processes from lab to production.
• Assist with process engineering deliverables: PFDs, P&IDs, mass/energy balances, heat transfer, fluid flow, and equipment sizing.
• Assist with facility design, process skids, reaction systems, and utility systems.
• Apply engineering standards and regulatory requirements to design activities.
• Assist with process safety evaluations including relief, venting, containment, and hazardous materials.
