Job summary

Oerlikon Group in Troy, MI is seeking a Process Engineer to be the SME for products and manufacturing processes at the Troy site. You will support day‑to‑day powder manufacturing operations and lead continuous improvement projects.

Responsibilities include technical support to production, yield/quality improvements, cost-saving initiatives, vendor liaison, and SAP master-data management. This role requires hands‑on experience with hot, noisy equipment and a strong lean/six sigma background.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering is required.
• 7+ years of manufacturing experience in bulk material production.
• U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder.
• Willingness to work hands-on with dirty, noisy, hot equipment.
• Knowledge of powder manufacturing, thermal spray processes, and thermodynamics.
• Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, maintenance and facilities.
• Knowledge of lean and six sigma methodologies.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality System Standard.
• Familiarity with AS9100 QMS Standard.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical resource for Production personnel.
• Sustain/improve product yield and quality.
• Manage technical projects with guidance from senior engineers or engineering manager.
• Identify and execute continuous improvement projects (yield, cost savings, cycle time, variability, first time right).
• Identify and propose upgrades and/or purchase of new equipment.
• Maintain liaison with vendors.
• Support or lead capital expenditure projects.
• Lead and support root cause investigations.
• Address nonconformances.
• Implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Maintain SAP master data (bills of material, recipes, etc.).
• Create charge calculations according to product specifications.
• Work with Controller on product costing and financial analyses.
• Transfer new products and technologies from R&D to Production (scale up).
• Create, update, and provide training on work instructions, manufacturing batch records, and other documentation.
