Job Description

An Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of six to eight Engineers in support of Cell Culture and Purification activities within Biologics manufacturing. This engineering professional, working with little or no supervision, applies scientific, engineering knowledge, and mathematics to lead equipment and process troubleshooting, New Product Introduction (NPI), manage/support medium to large projects, equipment optimization, and maintain and track area priorities. The Engineering Manager has general knowledge of other related disciplines beyond their own area of expertise.

Responsibilities

• Develops and assigns work for a team of Engineers supporting Cell Culture and Purification operations. Mentors staff and serves as a technical leader, leveraging the team to drive tactical and strategic priorities.
• Assesses and prioritizes objectives and tasks, translating them into actionable work streams.
• Ensures compliance with policies and procedures, manages project quality, and understands the impact of design changes.
• Oversees process monitoring, troubleshooting, and mentors staff to resolve anomalies, engaging with operational staff on the floor.
• Supports New Product Introduction activities, including equipment walkdowns, batch reviews, and vendor collaboration.
• Builds relationships with colleagues, customers, contractors, and vendors, promoting open communication and understanding.
• Communicates effectively through various formats, increasing customer satisfaction and documenting agreements.
• Interprets problems, creates or modifies design solutions, and applies engineering principles to improve methods and processes.
• Defines project scope, plans work, manages multiple tasks, and participates in economic analyses and feasibility studies.
• Leads medium to large projects, managing scope, timelines, and communication with stakeholders.
• Designs and leads experiments, gathers data, and assesses solutions considering regulatory and operational needs.
• Applies technology innovatively, mentors others, and shares solutions across sites.
• Interacts with senior management and external personnel, balancing objectives and long-term interests.
• Supports project definition, capital expenditure requests, and validation strategies.
• Participates in long-range planning related to capacity, technology, and capital investments.
• Supports capital project execution, including design, validation, and startup activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, science, or related field; 8+ years of engineering or operational experience; postgraduate degree preferred.
• Demonstrated technical contributions and a strong knowledge of industry practices.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
• Technical background in pharmaceutical, biologics, or similar industries.
