About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a well-established U.S. manufacturing organization with a long history of innovation, quality, and investment in its people and manufacturing operations.
We are looking for a Process Engineer II to join a manufacturing operation in Heflin, Alabama. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on improving how the plant operates - from troubleshooting production issues and reducing downtime to optimizing processes, improving quality, reducing waste, and driving measurable continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate enjoys being close to the operation and working directly with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering to identify problems, understand the data, implement solutions, and sustain improvements.
What You'll Do
- Develop, improve, standardize, and support manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, safety, and productivity.
- Work directly with plant and production teams to troubleshoot process issues and identify root causes of manufacturing problems.
- Identify opportunities to reduce downtime, waste, defects, scrap, and process variation.
- Use manufacturing data and performance metrics to evaluate processes and measure improvement.
- Lead or support Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and implement process improvements that improve throughput, cycle time, quality, and overall production performance.
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering to resolve production challenges.
- Support new product introduction (NPI), process validation, scale-up, and manufacturing readiness activities.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, standards, and other manufacturing documentation.
- Support equipment, automation, and process-monitoring initiatives.
- Evaluate process performance and recommend improvements based on data, root-cause analysis, and operational requirements.
- Support cost-reduction, waste-reduction, and process-standardization initiatives.
- Ensure manufacturing processes meet applicable safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Help establish sustainable processes and mechanisms that maintain improvements over time.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
- 5+ years of relevant manufacturing, process, production, or industrial engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience working in a manufacturing or plant environment.
- Strong experience with process optimization, manufacturing troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
- Practical experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or similar improvement methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to use production data and metrics to identify opportunities.
- Experience working cross-functionally with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering teams.
- Ability to identify a production problem, analyze the underlying cause, implement a solution, and demonstrate the resulting improvement through measurable metrics.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and production teams.
Preferred Experience
Experience with one or more of the following is a plus:
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
- New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Process validation and scale-up
- Manufacturing cost reduction
- Waste and scrap reduction
- Equipment or automation integration
- Production performance improvement
- Process monitoring and manufacturing data systems
- High-volume or continuous manufacturing environments
- Metals, electrical products, wire/cable, extrusion, plastics, or other industrial manufacturing environments
What Makes This Role Interesting
This is not a desk-only engineering position.
You'll have the opportunity to work directly with the manufacturing operation, identify what's preventing the process from performing at its best, and drive improvements that can be seen in actual plant performance.
We're particularly interested in engineers who can speak to real manufacturing results - whether that's reducing downtime, improving OEE, increasing throughput, reducing scrap, shortening cycle time, improving yield, reducing costs, or eliminating recurring production issues.
If you're a hands-on manufacturing/process engineer who enjoys solving problems at the plant level and turning data into measurable improvements, we'd like to hear from you.
