Job description

As part of the Greenville Water Design Center (WDC) for Garver, this Process Engineer Group Leader will be responsible for building, leading and managing an integral group of engineering professionals in support of various projects for Garver’s Greenville Water Design Center. As part of a multi-discipline team, this Senior Engineer will be responsible for process design and management in support of Water Services Group projects company wide. Diversity in high-volume, custom plant projects will allow this senior engineer the opportunity to be hands-on with design, implement, and optimize chemical and biochemical processes directly involved with clients, provide mentorship to team members, and actively participate in marketing initiatives.

What you’ll do:

Generally, the responsibilities of this role will entail taking projects from conceptual planning to bid ready documents, including facility and equipment layouts, design calculations, equipment vendor coordination, management and coordination of support discipline activities, coordination with regional offices and regulatory agencies, as well as quality assurance and control. Ideal candidates shall be capable of evaluating and designing major process equipment for a wide variety of water and wastewater related infrastructure projects, including water and wastewater treatment plants and facilities.

Day to day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  1. Supporting regional teams with treatment related business development activities
  2. Developing conceptual level designs for water and wastewater treatment systems
  3. Developing detailed designs, including contract documents (plans and specifications)
  4. Coordinating with process mechanical team for detailed design services for treatment facilities
  5. Preparing design calculations, coordinating with other support discipline activities on projects, coordinating with regional Garver offices and regulating agencies, construction cost estimating, and quality assurance and control
  6. Managing and mentoring teams, coordinating schedules, monitoring project budgets, and ensuring delivery of quality work products which adhere to Garver standardization
  7. Be included in client meetings, industry conferences, and serve as a subject matter expert for the Water Business Line
In addition, the Process Group Leader will be responsible for:
  1. Recruiting top talent for the process team
  2. Developing scope, schedule, level of effort, and fees for projects
  3. Managing, mentoring and professional development for process team members
  4. Drive the detailed design through coordination with other support disciplines
  5. Planning, managing, and executing process staff and workload
  6. Developing detailed plans and specifications
  7. Coordinating and maintaining project schedules
  8. Planning and monitoring budgets
  9. Quality program compliance, including ensuring delivery of quality work products that adhere to Garver standardization.
  10. Process standards and tools development, procurement, and training

Some travel may be required for business development purposes, including proposal development, interviews, knowledge transfer sessions, and industry related conference attendance. Project specific travel may also be required for site assessments, project workshops, design review meetings, and support during construction. Due to the collaborative nature of coordination for large infrastructure projects, candidates must have the ability to seek out and resolve issues through close interaction with other project team members. In addition, the candidate shall be able to maintain a positive team attitude and interpersonal effectiveness to recruit, develop and maintain an efficient and productive process team. The process group leader will also be responsible for coordinating process team workload across Water Design Centers.

Minimum Requirements:
  1. Master’s Degree in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental engineering from an ABET accredited program
  2. Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license or with the ability to be licensed
  3. 10+ years of technical related experience with 2+ years of experience in project or team leadership
Preferred Attributes:
  1. Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license in several states including SC, NC, GA, FL, TN
  2. 15+ years of process engineering design experience with 5+ years of experience in project/team leadership
  3. Proven experience overseeing process designs, including detailed plans and specifications for major projects
  4. Overall understanding of water and wastewater treatment plant systems in a campus-wide environment
  5. Experience using Bluebeam and MSOffice products, including Excel, Outlook and Word
  6. Demonstrated experience performing process equipment evaluation, sizing and cost estimating
  7. Experience using wastewater process modeling software such as Hydromatis GPS-X, Dynamita Sumo, and/or EnviroSim BioWin
  8. Experience using hydraulic modeling software
  9. Affiliation and active participation with water/wastewater organizations such as AWWA, WEF, WRF
  10. Use of AutoCad and/or Revit CAD programs
  11. Good relationships with clients in WDC footprint
  12. Experience in giving presentations for clients and professional organizations
  13. Strong teaching and coaching skills to mentor and communicate with team members of all levels
