Job description

Reporting directly to the Technical Manager, this Process Engineer is responsible for managing various technical and production processes within the Cold Process Operations group and will recommend and implement improvements to the equipment and methods. This includes making recommendations related to batch, binder, furnace, forehearth, fiberizing, forming, binder, wash water, and Insulsafe hot and cold processes. This position collaborates with operators, maintenance teams, supervisors, other Process Engineers, and managers to ensure quality, safety, technical efficiency, and effective communication. The role also involves training and development and addressing issues that may impact labor management.

This individual will lead the following: troubleshoot problems and assist in planning maintenance activities to prevent equipment failures; train employees on changing manufacturing and maintenance techniques; actively participate in plant safety program and World Class Manufacturing (WCM) activities; manage all given equipment and labor costs to be compliant with the department's budget.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support cold process operations for two lines, collaborating with shift supervisors, Process Engineers, maintenance teams, and hourly employees to improve efficiency.
  • Monitor quality and analyze time and material losses and develop improvement action plans.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Oversee daily operations concerning inventory management, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Design and develop new process systems, revise existing processes, and coordinate the implementation of projects to enhance plant profitability.
  • Ensure CertainTeed Insulation’s standards of safety, quality, and reliability are built into process and equipment solutions utilizing WCM principles.
  • Analyze operating problems, develop solutions, and implement corrective actions.
  • Analyzes process variations; develops solutions and implements corrective actions by using advanced statistical tools in identifying and resolving the root causes of the variations in the process.
  • Responsibilities include designing / developing new process systems, revising existing processes, and developing and coordinating the implementation of projects, which contribute substantially to plant profitability.
  • Interacts with Team for operational troubleshooting, process improvement projects, production materials and raw material availability requirements.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams on preventative and reactive maintenance, safety standards, and project planning.
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with key suppliers for equipment and materials relevant to specific project needs.
  • Implement safety initiatives related to process systems or project support.
  • Assess technical training needs for the hot process area.
  • Handle any process or safety issues that may arise, with some on-call responsibilities 24 hours a day.

  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in production schedules or unexpected challenges. Capacity to make informed decisions based on data and critical thinking and make timely decisions to keep production processes running smoothly.
  • Ability to collaborate with other departments to achieve production goals.
  • Proactive & Independent learning skills, flexible in assuming job assignments.
  • Ability to make prompt, decisive, and self-guided decisions.
  • Must be able to spend a significant amount of time on the plant floor.
  • Understanding of project management and project engineering fundamentals.
  • Job includes tasks that require walking, bending, twisting, gripping, stair and ladder climbing, entering confined spaces and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Suite and other computer software.
  • Statistical methods & tools.Working knowledge of PLC systems.
