Job summary

Calumet Specialty Products Partners is seeking a Process Engineer in the Sacramento area to provide technical expertise in process design and processing techniques issued by the refinery. You will perform mass balances, energy balances, and conversion calculations to optimize equipment design and assure product quality.

Responsibilities include analyzing unit test data, maintaining process databases, and recommending improvements to yield and energy use.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 1–3+ years of applicable experience in process engineering.
• Proficient in MS Office Suite for analyses and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily unit health monitoring to align with Calumet expectations.
• Perform mass and energy balances and conversion calculations to optimize equipment design and product quality.
• Analyze unit test data to troubleshoot operations and refine process designs.
• Generate informational databases on process variables for troubleshooting and optimization.
• Recommend improvements to yield and energy consumption.
• Initiate and justify new projects and monitoring improvements.
• Collaborate with SMEs and management on unusual problems.
• Develop plans and criteria for projects within scope.
• Assess feasibility of tests, products, or equipment.
• Maintain awareness of safety, health, and environmental issues affecting the refinery.
• Evaluate economics of projects and support engineering, construction, and start-up.
• Provide process engineering support during turnarounds.

Job description

Purpose

The Process Engineer will provide technical expertise in all aspects of process design and processing techniques issued by the refinery to ensure the following:

Key Objectives and Responsibilities

• Conducts daily unit health monitoring consistent with Calumet Expectations
• Performs engineering calculations (i.e., mass balances, energy balances, conversion calculations) to optimize equipment design and assure product quality
• Gathers, analyzes, and interprets unit test data to assist in troubleshooting operating problems and developing revised process designs
• Generates and maintains informational database(s) on pertinent process variables for troubleshooting and optimization
• Makes recommendations to improve unit yield and/or optimize energy consumption
• Initiates and justifies new projects, additional monitoring and improvements to the unit
• Collaborates with appropriate subject matter experts, and manager concerning unusual problems and developments
• Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects within his/her responsibility area
• Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products, or equipment
• Maintains awareness of all Safety, Health, and Environmental issues that impact the refinery and personnel
• Evaluates the economic feasibility of projects assigned and provides Process engineering services during engineering, construction, and start-up of projects
• Provides Process Engineering support during turnarounds

Required Education/Experiences

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
• 1-3+ years of applicable experience
• Proficient user of MS Office Suite
