JOB DESCRIPTION:

The mission of the Process Engineer is to be responsible for troubleshooting manufacturing methods, processing, machine and tool utilization, methods modification, and other activities that affect the assigned areas. Works closely with manufacturing leaders and specialists on problems related to assigned areas.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and implement new or modified manufacturing methods in assigned areas to reduce production costs and improve efficiency.
  • Investigate and analyze production methods, processes, and operations to determine manufacturing modifications to increase production and reduce costs.
  • Observe and analyze high scrap or rework operations to determine causes. Advise concerned personnel of the results and recommend solutions to problems.
  • Compile pertinent cost, manpower efficiency, machine capability, space utilization, material handling, etc., data to support new manufacturing methods and equipment or modification recommendations.
  • Oversee and coordinate production methods and modifications for efficiency and cost control.
  • Direct and instruct subordinate processing personnel in processing changes.
  • Conduct studies to prepare and recommend new and revised operating procedures to maintain control, improve operations, and facilitate processing.
  • Analyze, recommend, and justify tooling requirements for assigned lines. Approve the procurement and utilization of tools.
  • Compile and analyze significant data relative to the solution of manufacturing problems and cost reduction studies, i.e., vendor capabilities and fabrication costs, to determine the economics and feasibility of “make or buy” decisions; the correlation of product design requirements with manufacturing operations and capabilities; the economics of maintaining inventory levels based on machining cost per volume, etc.
  • Prepare and submit manufacturing cost estimates and substantiating data for review and approval.
  • Prepare and submit manufacturing procedures and plans to interface with customers on specialized jobs.
  • Abide by all facility safety guidelines and quality procedures. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have a minimum of a four-year mechanical, electrical, or manufacturing engineering degree.
  • Should have a minimum of five years of manufacturing/industrial-related experience.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing methods, planning, and layout of production facilities, equipment, workflow, cost control, and cost reduction techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing to analyze, evaluate, and determine solutions to various problems that may affect the assigned area.
  • Thorough knowledge of material science, metallurgy, grinding, CNC machines/programming, robotics systems, and vision and sensor technologies.
  • Human relation skills to direct processing personnel and to work with plant supervisory personnel.
  • Technical writing ability.
