Job description

Job Purpose

The role of the Process Engineer is to ensure all processes meet the final quality of the product and the efficiency of the production system. The Process Engineer responsibilities include designing and implementing production processes, reducing inefficiency, recognizing patterns, collecting data, implementing methodologies, and improving quality. This role reports to the VP of Global Operations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, optimize, and monitor chemical manufacturing processes
  • Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and identify areas for improvement
  • Develop and implement operating procedures, systems, projects, and strategies to improve efficiency and reduce operating cost
  • Design, test, implement, and manage projects from start to completion, including scope development, process design, cost estimation, construction, commissioning, and start-up
  • Lead or participate on projects to implement new products to the site, interacting with lab chemists, the commercial team, environmental, health and safety, and plant operations team
  • Interact directly with supply chain, quality, and operations teams to drive continuous improvement
  • Develop best practices, routines and innovative solutions to improve production rates, quality of output and product reliability
  • Create process simulations and conduct risk assessments
  • Perform process analysis and make recommendations for improvement
  • Provide technical support and training to staff and junior engineers
  • Ensure all processes and procedures comply with safety and environmental regulations
  • Working closely with other specialists, including engineers and scientists, to develop products
  • Document all created processes and update and maintain these documents as changes occur
  • Operate in a fast paced, dynamic work environment, managing several projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Provide process documentation and operating instructions
  • Provide process and equipment design, process optimization, and troubleshooting
  • Conduct process development experiments to scale in a laboratory
  • Manage cost and time constraints
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations
Skills and Qualifications
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory prototyping, safety precautions and protocols for safe handling and disposal of hazardous agents, reagents, chemicals, and materials.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Work under minimal supervision.
  • Attention to detail, effective problem solving and decision-making skills.
Qualifications include
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Bioengineering, Chemistry, or related technical discipline.
  • Knowledge of process-related standards.
  • Knowledge of MS Project, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Working conditions

This position may require minimal travel.

This position may require working evenings and weekends.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders in a chemical process tower.
