Job summary

Crane Currency in Dalton, MA is seeking a Process Engineer to optimize manufacturing processes for secure currency production. You will drive Six Sigma–based improvements, coordinate trials with R&D and Supply Chain, and collaborate across Operations to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in engineering/science, pulp/papermaking co‑op experience, MS Office proficiency, and SPC training. U.S. citizenship and background checks apply.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (or equivalent) is required.
  • Co-op experience in pulp and papermaking operations is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Training in statistical process control is preferred.
  • Experience on projects to develop/improve systems is required.

Responsibilities

  • Support product validation trials to ensure quality and performance.
  • Coordinate scale-up/validation trials with Supply Chain & R&D for new materials/products.
  • Apply Six Sigma tools to improve processes and reduce variation.
  • Support safe/reliable manufacturing systems to improve rates, yields, and costs.
  • Optimize and troubleshoot manufacturing processes to ensure consistent quality.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement preventive measures.
  • Prepare detailed reports of trial results and improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive process enhancements.

How you will make an impact:

As a Process Engineer, you will play a key role in optimizing manufacturing processes that support the production of secure, high-quality currency. You will analyze workflows, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement solutions that enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve overall process performance. Working cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, and R&D teams, you will help drive innovation while maintaining rigorous quality and security standards. Your technical expertise and problem‑solving skills will directly contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the success of our manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support product validation trials and testing activities to ensure product quality and performance.
  • Coordinate scale‑up and validation trials with Supply Chain and R&D teams for new materials and product modifications.
  • Apply Six Sigma tools and methodologies to improve manufacturing processes and reduce variability.
  • Support the execution of reliable and safe manufacturing systems that improve production rates, yields, efficiencies, and costs.
  • Optimize, troubleshoot, and continuously improve manufacturing processes to ensure consistent product quality.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement preventive measures to minimize operational risks.
  • Prepare detailed reports documenting trial results, process improvements, and implemented changes.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to drive process enhancements and support manufacturing excellence.
Knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role:
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (such as Papermaking Technology, Pulp and Paper Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering) or equivalent experience.
  • Co‑op experience in a pulp and/or papermaking operation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Training in statistical process control.
  • Experience working on projects and processes to develop and improve systems.

Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to demonstrate and maintain suitability for employment in a position of Public Trust consistent with U.S. Government contract requirements.

Preferred:
  • 3-5 years of industrial process engineering experience in the papermaking industry.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification.

The salary range for this role is $80,000 – $112,000 annually. Pay is based on multiple factors including but not limited to work experience, qualifications, credentials, and location.
