Job summary

Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections – Corrections Services in Lake Charles, LA, is seeking a Probation and Parole Officer to supervise offenders and promote public safety through counseling and referrals to community resources. This role enforces probation and parole conditions, conducts investigations, prepares reports for courts and boards, and may participate in hearings.

Appointment may be probationary or permanent; experience substitutions apply.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR
• Three years of continuous active military duty; OR
• Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR
• A bachelor's degree. Experience substitution rules apply.
• Possession of a Louisiana driver's license is required.
• Incumbent must be able to carry firearms and pursue POST certification.

Responsibilities

• Supervise felony and misdemeanor offenders through counseling and referrals to community resources.
• Enforce probation and parole conditions by monitoring compliance and managing violations.
• Conduct investigations and prepare reports for courts, boards, and other decision makers.
• Conduct arrests, transport violators, and participate in hearings.
• Investigate and manage restitution, fees, fines, and other obligations.
• Coordinate offender placement in drug treatment, rehab, or mental health programs and provide crisis resources.
• Administer drug testing and oversee community service activities.
