Job summary

The Virginia Department of Corrections seeks a Probation Officer I for the Ashland P&P District #41. You will supervise adults on probation, enforce conditions set by the Courts or Parole Board, and use evidence-based practices to promote rehabilitation and public safety.

Work with treatment providers and community organizations, conduct home visits, prepare pre-sentence investigations and progress reports, and testify in court when required.

Qualifications

• Experience in casework management and direct service delivery.
• Strong report writing and communication within the criminal justice system.
• Ability to interpret policies and apply procedures with independent judgment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise adults on probation, ensuring compliance with Court/Parole conditions.
• Assess needs and develop individualized supervision and case plans using validated tools.
• Use Motivational Interviewing and CBT techniques to support behavior change and accountability.
• Collaborate with treatment providers, employers, and community organizations to connect clients with services.
• Prepare pre-sentence investigations and progress reports; testify in court when required.
