Job summary

Virginia Department of Corrections is seeking a Probation Officer I in Culpeper to supervise adults on probation, parole, or post-release supervision. You will assess risks, develop case plans, and use evidence-based practices to promote accountability and successful reintegration into the community.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering direct services in case management and supervision.
• Ability to write clear, accurate reports for courts and supervision records.
• Knowledge of criminal justice processes and procedures.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment in complex cases.
• Experience working with diverse populations and community partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day supervision to adults on probation, parole, or post-release supervision, ensuring compliance with court or Parole Board conditions.
• Assess risks and treatment needs; develop supervision and case plans to address criminogenic factors.
• Apply evidence-based practices to motivate change and promote accountability.
• Collaborate with treatment providers, employers, and community organizations to support rehabilitation and long-term success.
• Conduct home and community visits as required by supervision plans.
• Prepare pre-sentence investigations, sentencing guidelines, and progress reports; testify in court as needed.
• Monitor compliance and recommend appropriate actions to protect public safety.
