Job summary

The County of Chester seeks an Adult Probation Officer I to supervise individuals under court-ordered probation or parole. You will enforce conditions and work to reduce recidivism, while maintaining contact with families, law enforcement, and treatment providers.

Responsibilities include information gathering, applying risk/needs assessments, referrals to treatment, and timely court reporting. A valid driver's license and flexible hours are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
• Completion of the state provided/funded Adult Probation and Parole Basic Training Academy and Defensive Tactics Training Certification, within six months of employment.
• Familiarity with the laws and procedures concerning probation/parole supervision (i.e., search and seizures, violations, confidentiality etc.).

Responsibilities

• Supervise individuals granted parole or sentenced to probation, enforcing conditions.
• Maintain regular contact with justice involved individuals and monitor compliance with rules and court orders.
• Gather information through interviews with clients, victims, court, law enforcement and treatment providers as needed.
• Promote evidence-based practices such as risk/needs assessments, motivational interviewing and case planning.
• Prepare and submit court reports reflecting accuracy, timeliness and professionalism.
