Department Summary

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the intellectual hub ofthe University of Oregon, serving nearly two-thirds of allstudents. Home to more than 800 faculty across 50+ departments andprograms in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences,CAS is a dynamic and interdisciplinary academic community. Ourfaculty and advisors work closely with students to develop criticalthinking, analytical reasoning, and clear communication skills toaddress real-world challenges. CAS staff and managers are integralto this work, playing vital roles in supporting academic excellenceand advancing the mission of both the College and theUniversity.

The Creative Writing Program at the University of Oregon offersboth a minor in creative writing and a Master of Fine Arts. TheProgram emphasizes the workshop and integrating concentrated timefor writing with craft seminars. Undergraduate offerings within theCreative Writing Program also include the Kidd Tutorial Program, aunique studio experience that emphasizes literary analysis inpoetry and prose fiction, craft-related topics of concern to thecollege-level creative writer, and an engagement with the rigorouscritical discourse.

Position Summary

The Creative Writing Program at the University of Oregon seeks toestablish a pool of qualified candidates interested in Pro TemInstructor positions. Depending on departmental needs and candidatequalifications, Pro Tem Instructors may teach lower or upperdivision undergraduate courses, as well as some graduatecourses.

Positions are limited duration appointments potentially renewablefor up to a total of three years, based on programmatic need,funding, and performance. Screening of applications will take placeas positions become available and continue until positions arefilled.

Minimum Requirements
  • MFA or MA in creative writing.
  • One (1) year post-secondary instructional experience.

  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and studentsfrom a variety of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to contribute to institutional diversity, equity, andinclusion efforts.
