Department Summary

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the intellectual hub ofthe University of Oregon, serving nearly two-thirds of allstudents. Home to more than 800 faculty across 50+ departments andprograms in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences,CAS is a dynamic and interdisciplinary academic community. Ourfaculty and advisors work closely with students to develop criticalthinking, analytical reasoning, and clear communication skills toaddress real-world challenges. CAS staff and managers are integralto this work, playing vital roles in supporting academic excellenceand advancing the mission of both the College and theUniversity.

The Computer Science Department in the College of Arts and Sciencesoffers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Computer Science. The departmentserves approximately 600 undergraduate and 90 graduate majors, aswell as offering a number of general education classes in thediscipline. Computer Science instruction emphasizes a rigorous yetcreative approach to computing, prioritizing synchronous, hands-on,face-to-face learning rather than fully remote or asynchronousformats.

Position Summary

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Oregon isinviting applications for its open instructor pool. Instructionalopportunities include mainly introductory courses, covering thefundamentals of computer science, web programming, problem solving,and more.

Positions are limited duration appointments potentially renewablefor up to a total of three years, based on programmatic need,funding, and performance. Screening of applications will take placeas positions become available and continue until positions arefilled.

Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Science Education,or a related field.
Professional Competencies
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and studentsfrom a variety of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to contribute to institutional diversity, equity, andinclusion efforts.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A PhD in Computer Science, Computer Science Education, or arelated field.
  • Teaching and/or practical experience in the field.
