Department Summary

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the intellectual hub ofthe University of Oregon, serving nearly two-thirds of allstudents. Home to more than 800 faculty across 50+ departments andprograms in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences,CAS is a dynamic and interdisciplinary academic community. Ourfaculty and advisors work closely with students to develop criticalthinking, analytical reasoning, and clear communication skills toaddress real-world challenges. CAS staff and managers are integralto this work, playing vital roles in supporting academic excellenceand advancing the mission of both the College and theUniversity.

The Department of Physics is an instructional and researchdepartment within the College of Arts and Sciences that supportssignificant research activities in a wide range of fields in thePhysics discipline. The department includes approximately 35teaching faculty in addition to emeritus faculty, research staff,graduate students, and professional/administrative staff. Thedepartment enrolls approximately 2,000 students per term, withapproximately 200 undergraduate Physics majors and 100 graduatestudents.

Position Summary

Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree in Physics or related field.
  • Experience teaching in Physics or related field.

  • Ability to contribute to institutional diversity, equity, andinclusion efforts.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D in physics or related field.
